Merry's Descriptions

I started rereading Kiss of Shadows and found that some of the descriptions seemed a little odd; not stop you in your tracks odd, just a bit off. I've never noticed this in Anita and not on previous reading so KoS. What really sticks out so far is on the first page where the air at Merry's home is blue. I have no idea why clean air should be blue. It sounds like the exhaust from a small engine. Maybe I'm being overly sensitive but it seems that sometimes LKH's turn of phrase for descriptions, especially in the Merry series, is odd. I can't help wondering if this is deliberately done in an attempt to make Merry seem more alien and less Anita-like.

Los Angeles is a place that people, those with wings and without, come to hide. Hide from others, hide from themselves. I'd come to hide and I'd succeeded, but staring out at the thick, dirty air, I wanted to go home. Home where the air was blue most of the time and you didn't have to water the ground to get grass to grow. Home was Cahokia, Illinois, but I couldn't go back because if I did they'd kill me, my relatives and their allies. Everyone wants to grow up to be a fairie princess, trust me it's over-rated.

wouldn't it be awesome if after the book lkh is writing right now, she wrote one where anita wakes up and it's all been a dream from the night she had sex with jean claude in the killing dance?

Another Challenge Poll

I was going to post the next challenge, but then there was the flurry of really wanky blog entries and the subsequent flogs, which gave me an idea for another challenge. So, a poll to decide.

a) From the way the poll is set up, I believe you have to have the community friended; I'm not entirely sure.

b) Voting will end around noon on June 27th.

c) This isn't a "this or that" poll. We will get to both challenges. This poll is just to see which holds more interest for you at the moment.

d) No challenge (i.e. these or others) starts without an official post from yours truly. Complete rules and conditions for the challenges would be posted when the challenge is issued.

Option 1: Where Are They Now?
In this challenge, you would create fanworks (fanfic, icons, art, etc.) set in a reasonably distant future (i.e., not 3 weeks from now, but something more substantial) and follow the life of a character from AB or MG.

Option 2: Mock Blog
Write a mock blog entry in the style of LKH. It can be about anything (except Trinity, we'll say for now, because it's not her fault her mother is infamous) in LKH's sphere. You CANNOT copy from LKH's blog, however. (If you can find a way to do this in icons or art or whatnot, that's groovy too.)
