Jan. 30th, 2005 07:19 pmMy current conspiracy theory is that LKH has locked herself into some kind of a certain # of novels in a certain amount of time contract which is causing the deterioration of the series.
LKH is scrambling so much to get these novels done that they aren't well researched or well put together because she just doesn't have TIME.
My current Proof :
Amazon suggests that "A Stroke of Midnight" is going to be released on April 12,2005, and my roomate assures me that the April 12 date has been available there for some time.

She has JUST finished the novel.
The last entries mean two things to me.
1) I don't get the feeling that she is going to go back over what she wrote multiple times to assess and edit it herself meaning all sorts of loose ends, in and out characters and a frightening lack of plot.
I learned something from NaNoWriMo last year...You can write 50,000 words fast, and you should at once. BUT then you must go back and completely edit and re-do most of the thing because your initial 50,000 will basically be disjointed character relationship stuff (because that's fast and easy to write). You need to go back and research and strengthen your plot and then re-connect the character relationships to the plot information. Then you have a logical paced novel.
2) It sounds like she's really burnt out and just wants to get the book over with. A bad idea for good writing.
So it appears to me that LKH needs to take a long break and then write something she wants to write and needs to take a very long time to do it. She should take enough time that she can plot out and plan a real plot this next effort. But frighteningly I don't think that she can due to a contractual obligation.
In conclusion, folks if you want to be writers, as financially appealing as it may sound, be very very careful what you promise to other people.
