Modly: Clarification, mostly

As I figured, I was confusing in my last post, so I'll try to clarify, and I'll try to address the concerns people have sent to me.

This community is not going academic-only. (Although if you want to post academic-level criticism, you're more than welcome.) It's not going to be limited to people with literature-based degrees. I'm not saying we have to do research before we make a post. You don't need footnotes and secondary sources and all that.

What I am saying is that "OMG, Laurell sucks" doesn't take much effort or insight to say. My nine-year-old niece could say that. (Though I sincerely hope that she's never read an LKH novel.) As part of a longer post, "OMG, Laurell sucks" is fine. But if that's the pivot point of your argument, it's shallow. Rather, why does Laurell suck? What did you like about her work before the suckage? When and how did her stuff start to suck? Who's in the genre and doing it better? The base sentiment is fine, but it's a jumping-off point for a larger opinion; it can't stand on its own. (And yes, I know I used "suck" far too often in that paragraph. Sorry.)

Also, "scathing wit" was probably the wrong term to use. I don't want anyone to feel like they aren't "qualified" to post here. All are welcome. The point I was trying to make is that we should all—myself definitely included—be putting more thought into our posts. Yeah, most days, the snark does write itself, and there's always a place for an angry rant; given what she's inflicted on the fandom, I think we're more than justified in having an irrational rant now and then. All I'm asking is that we don't just say the same things over and over. We all know she gives us more than enough ammo for new snarking opportunities.

So, short version: snark is still good. Rants are still good. As long as the post has substance, it's good. If I'm still not making sense, e-mail me at the lkh.lashouts address and I'll get to it when I get home.

I guess we're just getting down to our last nerve with some of the things Team LKH has been pulling lately, though I'll admit that I have seen a bit more blind rage at the things she says in posts lately than the usual routine of just attributing it to her bloated ego, snarking, and moving on.

Maybe LKH has been replaced by a troll posing as a fangirl, deliberately saying things and writing Mary Sues to piss people off and incite flame wars between us and the troo fans.
