Oh good lord. Is it just me, or does LKH show more and more of her ignorance with time?

So I'll air on the side of caution. - LKH from her most recent blog entry

She also used words like "secretest", and managed to get the your/you're issue confused.

How do people become published like this? I had always hoped that to be published you would have to have a grasp of the basics of the grammer, spelling, and even sayings.

- Meli (who's going to air her clothes on the caution side of the house today)

It's also something we haven't seen her do much of herself. No sympathy or forgiveness for those who opposed her greatness or didn't understand her darkity darkness. Instead we get to read about her wangsting over said people in every single blog and book she writes.

I know there are blogs out there where people tell the most intimate details of their lives.

Yes, Laurell, and I believe yours is one of them.

They treat the blog as if it's a private diary, then post it so that thousands can read it.

Yes, Laurell, and I believe YOURS IS ONE OF THEM!

Protect your boundaries people. Protect yourself.

PHYSICIAN HEAL THYSELF, for Christ's sake. Oh no, I get it, she's building up to a big whinefest.

Too many people take the information and use it for cruel purposes.

... It's so good to be right.

I have about forty pages of the Jason novel/novel-lite done.

She WHAT? LEAVE JASON ALONE, WOMAN. IS NOTHING SACRED?

my characters are like my friends,

Truly, Laurell, WE HAD NO IDEA, you haven't mentioned this A ZILLION TIMES BEFORE.
Except *my* friends don't control what I write even though they're imaginary.

Noo not Jason!! For some reason I like him and I'm not sure why...but something tells me she might destroy him now. If his 'novel-lite' is anything like Micah I will spork my eyes out of my head.

the book is writing at such a pace that I know it's better to leave the holes and come back, then fill as I go. When a book keeps a nice steady burn like this, you just feed the fire and worry about the messy bits later. Unless you want to derail yourself, which I do not.

This sounds a lot like how I write myself--you get a good plot going and just scramble to get it all down before the idea leaves you. BUT THEN YOU GO BACK AND REWRITE, FILL IN DETAILS, AND CORRECT ANY INCONSISTENCIES, ETC.

LKH isn't filling in her holes, just digging herself larger ones. She hasn't just derailed, she's lost digh tof the freaking railroad track entirely.

I find this new role for Jason to be interesting Let me guess, he turns into a pathetic castrated version of himself and falls into the ranks of yes-men, and suddenly reveals some angsty, tragic aspects of his past which compels Anita to wuv him.

Have you ever picked up a novel by Louis Lamour? My dad was writing a book and he has always liked westerns, and conveniently enough the market for westerns is one of the easiest ones to break into, so he bought a bunch of books by best sellers in the field.

This is so pathetic - but as lousy as LKH has become - Louis Lamour at his best is worse than she will ever be. She couldn't sink that low unless she fell down a flight of stairs and became brain damaged. And even then I think she would still have to work at it.

Getting on the NY Times bestseller list doesn't really take brains or talent. In fact - I think that combination can oftentimes hinder you.

Two words: Paris Hilton.

No brains, no talent, and yet has had a best selling book. I can't find if it was on the NYT list, but it was on the WSJ list.

We won't mention everything else...

That was probably ghost written. I cannot imagine someone like Paris Hilton having the patience or the initiative to write a book.

Speaking in defense of Louis L'Amour, he's of the oral storytelling tradition. That's how he wrote. Different strokes for different folks, but no one wrote more honorable or masculine men. LKH wouldn't understand either of those things if she was bludgeoned to death with his hardcover library.

I love Louis L'Amour, but unless you are a diehard western fan with a hankering for the tough, stoic guy riding the plains and kicking asses formula then you won't like him. His Sackett series is one of the best I ever read.

I do like novels with those kinds of characters - but I find Louis Lamour characters two be two-dimensional cliches of what real men are supposed to be like. I prefer writers like Jim Thompson (http://www.amazon.com/Killer-Inside-Me-Crime-Masterworks/dp/0752851438/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-1277658-9828069?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1178464444&sr=8-1) (whose early history was as violent and interesting as Louis Lamour) and James Ellroy. Both of them are amazingly talented at giving their characters emotional depth and complexity, which is the big thing I need from writers.

I just felt that with Lamour - his characters were cardboard cutouts and there really was nothing hiding behind that tough facade. It's an easy facade for a writer to project in a character with minimal effort.

I agree with Darksongtrilogy that he did write in the oral storytelling tradition.

I always thought there was a little more, but I grew up loving Louis L'Amour.

I think the scary part is that she keeps writing these blogs in absolute seriousness. To constantly air your dirty laundry and write out your own personal fantasies via your books in a blatant manner, and then write something like this is just...wow. You get the feeling she managed to find us, thought we dug for "personal info" to attack her with, then decided to attempt to pull up the gates.

"Some seem to get a thrill out of it, like a type of voyeurism. Some actually seem to make a network of friends to help them through their personal troubles."

You know, you have to wonder who she's talking about in the first sentence.
By the way, LKH:
Voyeurs = the people who like to READ those tell-all blogs.
Exhibitionists = the people who like to WRITE them.

I doubt she realizes she exists on a completely different mental planet than the rest of us. The language of this post seems more blatantly horrific than normal.

I mean, wouldn't you think someone who has a FRENCH vampire as a major character at least know where the word voyeur comes from and what it means? Especially when this is a KINKY french vampire and her books have revolved around her idea of edgy sexuality.

I want to know how this woman got published if she's always written this way? Who was that person who was willing to pay to have her original editor apparently do a full rewrite?

And can I get their name, I have some stuff I wrote in preschool I'd like published. Hope they don't mind crayon.

Or at the risk of sounding like a LKH supporter (which I'm not) she's hit a combination of full burn out and personality disorder for which she needs serious medicine.

Here's three disorders that she could suffer from:

Narcissistic Personality Disorder: Behavior or a fantasy of grandiosity, a lack of empathy, a need to be admired by others, an inability to see the viewpoints of others, and hypersensitive to the opinions of others.

Paranoid Personality Disorder: Marked distrust of others, including the belief, without reason, that others are exploiting, harming, or trying to deceive him or her; lack of trust; belief of others' betrayal; belief in hidden meanings; unforgiving and grudge holding.

Schizotypal Personality Disorder: Peculiarities of thinking, odd beliefs, and eccentricities of appearance, behavior, interpersonal style, and thought (e.g., belief in psychic phenomena and having magical powers).

Personally I'm guessing that she suffers from schizotypal personality disorder.

I wish I believed that Ms. Hamilton was a ruthless businesswoman who decided to exploit her negative fans. Then there would be a fair exchange. She destroyed a series I loved and I could hate her for it.

The argument that says that she's doing all of this deliberately is strong for example troo fans who come onto the Amazon board just when discussions are dying, flash visits from Darla etc. But if anything I think her image is being manipulated by people around her.

I'm no expert, but the first time I really believed that LKH was mentally ill was when I read Mistral's Kiss. The final third of the book is completely disjointed and literally flashes from scene to scene without any connectivity. It read like an anxiety dream.

Then I read her infamous 'negative fan' blog where she refers to her characters as friends and tries to buy Christmas presents for them.

I find it hard to believe that someone without a personality disorder would be so out there.

I hope this makes sense. I'm at work and haven't had my first cup of coffee. Hey, maybe that explains everything. Maybe Ms. Hamilton gave up coffee and her brain went into a permanent spasms.

I've got a conspiracy theory that will make us both happy.

LKH has collapsed into a mental illness. For this one, I've decided that she suffers from a combination of narcissism and paranoia, so that she trusts only a few people including JonBoi and Darla. Due to her delusional state her work spirals downward at the cost of a coherent plot and decent writing skills.

Meanwhile her few trusted confidants have decided that they like living the good life care of Ms. Hamilton. So they play upon her insecurities, encourage inappropriate and untimely blogging and appear on boards when it will do the most good. Since there is always a backlash, this helps feed the paranoia, thus increasing the downward spiral.

Needless to say, those who actually care about ms. Hamilton's health and well being (i.e. Mr. Hamilton) are isolated and pushed away.

Damn-this sounds like the Anna Nichol Smith/Howard Stern story. I think my brain was invaded by E-TV when I was asleep.

Her original literary agent pretty much re-wrote GP for her after signing her on. And it went round publishers for two years before it was picked up, so there was plenty of time to polish it.
