Those of you that dabble in comics fandom may already be aware of Chris's Invincible Super-Blog, which offers up tastily scathing reviews, commentary, and tons of the best kind of old skool crack.
Anyway. Chris has been hilariously dissecting each issue of the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter comic series for the past few months, and it's the best kind of literary flogging.
He started out promisingly with his review of #3 (linked below):
"Yes, Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #3 hit stands yesterday, and so tonight, I'm devoting the ISB to an exhaustive, scurrilous set of notes on what may actually be the most awesomely terrible comic being put out by a major publisher today.
Grab your own copy and read along!"
Anyway. Since #6 hit the stands last week, I give you The Annotated Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #6.
The best part? Is that the creative team on the comic got linked to his entries/reviews/flogging, and apparently wrote him about his reviews. To which Chris responded:
"So! Now that I've built up a small amount of goodwill from the people who make this thing, I think it's time to completely blow it with another round of comprehensive notes on the subtle nuances and were-rat Daisy Dukes of everyone's fourth-favorite vampire hunter, now featuring even more guys in mesh tank tops than anyone could have possibly predicted."
There's bonus snark in every review about Anita's poor taste in armaments, as Chris makes her go toe-to-toe with the Punisher Armoury.
Here are all the reviews, in descending order, from #6 to #1. Seriously, I sprained a rib (and an ovary) laughing.
Enjoy!

Date: 2007-05-01 11:28 pm (UTC)I tend to rant quite a bit too.
(Although perhaps one of the few things maintaining Chris Claremont's increasingly tenuous claim to being sane is the fact that he's showing Ali using her powers in all kinds of awesome new ways in Excalibur.)
I've got a HUGE pull list that brings out the love still. I may hate Marvel and DC both with the fire of ten snillion enraged and dyspeptic suns, but there's still quality to be had there. MAX Punisher (brilliant), Ex Machina, everything to do with the Annihilation supermegacrossover (aka the Crossover That Actually Kicked Ass Unlike CW), the recent Agents of Atlas mini, Green Lantern (which is finally starting to rock except for last issue), She-Hulk, Hellblazer, X-Factor, Planet Hulk, Brubaker's Captain America, Brubaker & Fraction's Immortal Iron Fist, etc.

Date: 2007-05-02 12:06 am (UTC)Marvel recently took Marvel's "Civil War" comic book miniseries, erased the actual text, and replaced it with his own. Someone desperately needs to do the same with scans of these Anita comics. Mightygodking is a genius at this stuff but I doubt he's ever read the Blake series so I doubt he could supply a lot of the in-jokes we're all privy to.

Date: 2007-05-02 12:14 am (UTC)I'm a TPB girl. I have more patience waiting all at once. Though I realize that means I miss out on some things (For example I'm having to hunt down Gotham Central issue by issue (as money shows up)).
Ex Machina I've liked. I've heard about She-Hulk, but in all honesty I don't get past the cheesecake covers. It's stupid, I know. But I just go 'bzuah?'. I should trust more.
I gave up on anything X-Men, uhmm 3 yrs ago was it? It half felt like people were talking because of the movies and they hadn't followed the various characters through crappo and back again. And then there was something about Gambit as Death?
Eh, anyway. Yeah, I fled to Manga.
I know!
But I did.
Even though I learnt how to read reading Batman and before my parents house burnt down I had Dazzler Old School like whoa. Any rpg I ever joined, I wanted to be her. Singing, dancing, sparkly lights and kick assness! How could a little girl not love that?
Hellblazer only won me over in the past 12 or so months. I borrowed a lot from the library. I've no idea where I'd start with buying them. Someone mentioned the female love interest in Hulk died recently. And omg, the Movie! It made me cry!
Tears of blood it made me cry!
But wow, yeah, your pull list does sound huge. I'm... really picky about giving Marvel or DC money when I feel like there's so much the could work on.
Still. BoP!
And now with Gail on WW, I'll be looking at that seriously.

Date: 2007-05-02 12:55 am (UTC)Jean-Claude's dialogue really does sound better if you do it in a James-from-Team-Rocket voice.
Although, that might just be because it makes me laugh so hard I'm crying.

But I did.
*cackle*
Oh, dear. I just...no matter how hard I try, no matter how much someone jumps up and down and says "BUT YOU'LL LOVE FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST," I just crack open a volume of manga and my eyes glaze over.
Dazzler rocks. I love my mutants madly, but my supreme love in all of comics fandom, topping even my love for Green Arrow, Hal Jordan, Matt Murdock, Elektra, Black Bolt, Medusa, and Jean Grey is...HENRY P. MCCOY.
Back off, girls. He's MINE.
I think we clearly need to friend each other, stop with the public foreplay on a comm dedicated to lashing out at LKH, and just get to SERIOUS COMIC BIZNESS.
PS
Date: 2007-05-02 01:59 am (UTC)Birds of Prey has gotten my interest again now that Oracle has Barda and Hawkgirl on board, and I can ALWAYS read about the Secret Six. Ragdoll for the win! I have a secret, perverted crush on Ragdoll.
WHAT.
HE'S SEXY, in a totally twisted-yet-genderqueer-yet-refined way.
