Free at last! Rant-a-thon
Jun. 5th, 2007 09:54 amIt's over! My disturbing, somewhat masochistic relationship with Laurell K. Hamilton's "erotica" is DONE. It was hard to say good-bye. I had been reading her books for about half my life. Getting a new Anita was such a thrill. Now, The Mannequin fills me with dread. All the characters who I loved have changed.
I don't know if I can stop cold-turkey, though! Would I be a total hypocrite if I just read GP-BB? Then pretended a tragic accident befell St. Louis and the series ended.
That means no more Micah! No more randomly inserting where-animals for the sole purpose of sex. Except for Gil the werefox. Did he ever actually do anything besides be a werefox?
Maybe in my alternate universe Melanie comes back and causes a little more ruckus.
These were the books where I like Anita. I liked the fact that she was gun-shy after college dude treated her like crap.
I liked Anita's practicality. The not necessarily being attracted to women, but kissing Yasmeen (sp?). It showed good survival instincts. NOW she'd endlessly angst about what if she enjoyed it!?
Oh yeah, and I will never have to deal with the "bad kitty" debacle from ID. In MY alterverse, Nathan does not exist! It's tragic, but he was only interesting to me for two books=(
Question: if I completely stop reading the books can I still be a Lasher?

Date: 2007-06-05 05:02 pm (UTC)Oh, absolutely, dear. Many of us have either already stopped reading the books, or are just about to read the last straw.

Date: 2007-06-05 05:19 pm (UTC)I see no hypocrisy in this. Seems perfectly legit and within your rights. Am I missing something?

Date: 2007-06-05 09:01 pm (UTC)Seriously. She started out just having lycanthropes, and then she had to go and add in all the LOLcanthropes.

(And, your icon! Loved that episode.)

Oh My God, were-chickens. That has to be the suckiest life EVER. Everyone else changes into something cool with teeth, and the were-chickens are just... fucked. Damn.)

Date: 2007-06-06 01:20 am (UTC)I went to my bookstore today to pick up a couple of books. Not TH, but I'll confess it was really hard not to pick it up and leaf through it, if only for old times sake. But I'm attempting to break the LKH addiction and go cold turkey so I refrained.
Anyway, the B&N had 15 books on the New Hardcover table. I asked the sales clerk how many had been sold. As of 6:00 pm the answer was 'none.' Dare I hope other negative fans are breaking the addiction?
