http://www.mrsgiggles.com/books/gryphon_key.html

Mrs. Giggles lends her magic to Talia Gryphon's Key To Conflict. Gryphon is LKH's former bodyguard and now protege in inflicting bad porn in the guise of fantasy fiction on the world. Mrs. Giggles give it an 8, the lowest rating she's given in a long time. Micah got a 2, so you know this one is bad. The only positive is that the Mary Sue actually enjoys having a lot of sex, unlike Anita.

When I first heard about that book, I typed it into google, along with the word 'review'. The snark helped me feel better about its existence.

Reminds me of how much I enjoy Kim Harrison's characters. I really liked Rachel's first boyfriend Nick, who resembled Jeff Goldblum (whom I've always thought was incredibly hot and he's fairly average looking).

It's refreshing once in a while for the characters to be somewhat average. You can be extrodinarily beautiful and sexy to someone without being an Adonis. Kim Harrison did a fantastic example of that.

I might get Key to Conflict from the library just to laugh my ass off, but I've been too dissapointed lately with too many bad fanficcy fantasy novels that I'm fed up. The latest being the latest and last HP book.

Is there nobody who can write decent fantasy anymore? *clings to my Kim Harrison novels*

I just finished Cast in Secret, third volume of Michelle Sagara's Cast in ... series. Excellent: I like it even better than the first two volumes.

It's like me and Mrs. Giggles mind-melded on this book. I'm glad to see that I wasn't roaring with laughter during the scene where Gillian discovers her inner Dr. Phil. She listed all the crazy stuff I thought was just so funny: the ghost guy almost getting a poke in the arse, the Kung Fu Grip Vagina, the stinky "sensual perfume" wafting off Gillian's Kung Fu Grip Vagina. I've started to feel almost sorry to Talia Gryphon, because, really, no editor in their right mind should have green-lit this trainwreck. This book is the equivalent of embarassing photos of a person on the toilet being released to the public.

"undead vibrators" works so well. I have to agree

That think about the ghostly buggering had me laughing for ten minutes. Was it supposed to be funny?

Check around page 99. I think that's a page somewhere in the middle of ghost sex scene Mrs. G described and its also where the author describes the Mary Sue's vagina as being like iron bands.

God help anybody who has sex with her. Iron bands? Reminds me of this one writer who described a penis as "entering like a stabbing spear."

*laughs* So, for a moment there, I thought she was ranking on a scale of 1-10, in which case an 8 is heaps better than a 2.
I should have known it was out of 100.

Thank you for clarifying that -- I thought it was a backwards 1-10 scale with 10 being worst. (Was very confused about "Micah" getting a 2, therefore. ^__^)

I was just over at Mrs. Giggles today and just read that. I was laughing.

I couldn't believe there was another Mary Sue who gets more sex than Anita.

I guess other Mary Sues are finally kicking Anita's butt for more action.

I don't think LKH would have helped this woman at all if her writing were better than her own. She just strikes me as that kind of person, I guess?

HEE HEE HEE...

I just looked at the LKH reviews too. Too funny! Spot-on, in fact. I love the description of "Micah" as being a splash of vomit on the pages.

And I didn't know Gryphon was an ex-bodyguard. I am SO getting that book out so I can toast it properly on amazon! A book that bad has no right to have three and a half stars!

Was checking this book out over at Amazon when I noticed that Darla had given the book a 5 star review. Some nice user has pointed out the connection in the comments. Too funny.

""Take this review with a grain of salt. Darla is thanked in the acknowledgements of this book by the author: "Darla Cook, my incomparable line editor and dear friend, without your help this truly would not have gotten off the ground".

The line editing is done so well that in the second sentence of the book a European car type is called an "Opal" instead of an "Opel". This error is subsequently repeated. ""

The editing in this thing is awful. Random capitalization, extra/tripled punctuation, sentences that make no sense . . . and of course, the bevy of extra commas.
Incomparable editor, my ass.
