[personal profile] pith posting in [community profile] lkh_lashouts
Back in June, [livejournal.com profile] nanale had warned us about the Quill Awards, which had LKH nominated 3 times, if I recall, in the sci-fi/fantasy/horror category at the time.

Now? The nominees are as follows:
The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower - Stephen King
Going Postal - Terry Pratchett (VOTE FOR HIM! *ahem* No bias here, really....)
Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell - Susanna Clarke
Shadow of the Giant - Orson Scott Card
The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror - Christopher Moore

Oooookay. So what am I missing here? Did the committee come to its senses and realize that she didn't deserve to be nominated ONCE, let alone three times? Was there a whittling-down process? (Because Anne Bishop and Tad Williams are no longer listed either.)

And here I was, all ready to give an impassioned "vote her off the literary island!" speech, and now it looks like I don't have to. Oh bother.

You can only vote if you have a 'valid zip code' which I assume means US people only.

Pants.

A Pith. Apparently, the semi-finalists are voted on by members, and the top five make it to the finals. Thank god somebody has some sense.

*listens to the sound of LKH throwing a tantrum*

Just quickly: can you check the URL for the Quill Awards link? Because it's decidedly not what you've got posted there.

Heh. *bes amused* I wonder if we'll get soem whiney blog about how she was taken off of the awards short list and how they're just stupid anyway because they don't understand how brilliant she really is. Hell, I'd love a blog like that, just to get my teeth into it.

One of our fellow LKH 'fans', emailed Darla about this. Here's her reply. (PS: if she minds, please let me know and I'll delete the comment :D..otherwise..enjoy)

**********************

I got a reply back from Darla after I mailed, (under a faux email addy), about the Awards.

Here is her reply:

HI! Laurell was nominated three times in the preliminary ballots. They narrowed it down to the top five vote getters in each category. We were afraid it would end up splitting it and it did. Charlaine Harris got caught the same way.

But we hope everyone will vote for MaryJanice Davidson in the Romance Category.

Smiles....Darla

IN other words...LKH was having a tantrum..hee hee.

AAAH HA HA!

Charlaine Harris missed out, eh? Hmm. Not really surprised, but I still like her books.

Uhh, fine. She didn't get into the Top 5 list! And isn't it nice how Darla has to mention, that Harris didn't make it too? I may be a "jealous bitch", but right now, it sounds like they have to lick their wounds by finding out who else didn't get enough votes.

Thanks for the zip code.
