This is not an attack on [info]thrice_bound or anyone who agree's with them, but i've had it up to here with you people continuously bitching about LKH. This is a FAN community, not an I HATE LKH community, and thats all this place has turned into.

Since I'm still a FAN I'm cutting my losses and my membership because more then half of the posts here are complaining about this, that, and the other thing, that they dont agree with her writing or how she writes. LKH has ever right to write whatever the hell she wants and if you dont like it STOP COMPLAINING AND DON'T READ IT!

I'm an author too and listening to all the shit is just as offensive to me.

My response-

I think that the point of <lj-user"thrice_bound">'s entry is a fan issue and therefor has every right to be discussed in a fan based community. She/he made it very obvious that at one point they had been a die hard fan of the series.
Many people have said that only things that you really care about can make you really angry.

I am an author aswell. That being said I do not think that LKH is behaving like a mature author, or person at all. She is refusing to listen to her fans at all. She whines and cries whenever we imply that there is anything wrong with her darling Anitaverse. She has written in her blog that she was struggling with writing scenes with Richard in them because of the fact that she got so much email saying that people <i>like</i> him. In an interview where she was asked why she has started inserting so much sex in to her books she replied that she was being "contrary." None of these are even decent reasons to make sacrifices in regards to your writing.

She has a series where one of the main plot points is the main character trying to get pregnant. Those books have less sex in them than the Anita Blake VAMPIRE HUNTER books, which are supposed to be thrillers/mysteries.

The only mysteries we seem to be getting in the next book are "Is Anita Pregnant?" "How long until Ronnie alienates Anita for being a total bitch-face?" and "Will we ever see Edward again?"

I don't hate Laurell K. Hamilton. When I read her blog it is very obvious to me that she tries very hard to be a nice person and do what is right. She wrote a bunch of books that I was very passionate about, and obviously has a good amount of talent. She cares about her characters and what happens to them. You can tell that she loves her husband and her child and whoever the hell Darla really is. These are all makings of a good person.

But when you let "being contrary" get in the way of good writing... your die hard fans have a right to complain.

Wait, if no one complained, then wouldn't this community not exist? It being for venting about LKH frustrations and all?

And this is the kind of thing I'd like to level at people that tell me, "If you hate the books so much, stop reading them!" and such. I wouldn't be this pissed if I didn't like it so much.

PS - check yer HTML - lj user tags don't have a hyphon in them.

Exactly. Anita Blake Vampire Hunter was my favorite series EVAH. And then..poof. No more. It became something completely else...and it wasn't a change for the better.

The entire point of this community is to snark about that, and the 'tudey that creates it...

That level of frustration does not come from simply 'not liking the books, so don't read them.'

And many of those you are speaking to are also writers..including published ones, as an aside.

Anyone ever wonder if Laurell has the brains to escape Jon and Darla's safety net and actually has an alias (ooohh... the sneakyness) and posts on these sorts of communities, lamenting the "mean peeplz" and crying about poo-pooing her talent... and then goes back to writing more pants, physically impossible, psychologically draining sex scenes just to be contrary. (surely, all Anita's men should have become old, dried up husks by now... regardless of metaphysical wowserz, etc...)

Probably. I'm pretty sure that she or a research assistant were trawling the YAHOO RPGS for ideas a few years back.

Several things from a number of clubs I was in showed up in the books subsequently.
