This isn't a problem I've experienced yet in my own RPG, but I was curious if others had in theirs....

I'm sure that some of you role play online (forums, email, AIM, MUSH, MUD, whatever). Have any of you had problems with new fans of the books (mainly the later books) joining your game and want to play out sex only? How did you, and the other members of the game, react and deal with the situation? I've been curious as to how the change in the direction of the books, and the change in readership, has affected games based in the AB (or MG) universe.

Not really had any problems with fans of the later books looking for pr0ns. For the most part, the Yahoo! RPGs I belong to were created out of pure frustration with the later books and attemtping to A) go in a whole other direction, or B) ignore the book entirely and just do our own thing.

If anything, the pr0ns becomes a problem when the group hasn't got much going on and people wind up writing bad porn to fill in the time. *flashbacks* :O

Generally, we got really picky about who we posted with, because the search is always on for talented writers (and lord knows, they're out there....though, some of the good ones also have temperamental problems) and tend to play in a relatively bitch-free environment.

There was the whole Indy saga, where all a player would post was badly written porn in the bathroom, and she was given ample opportunity to interact with other players, get out of the bathroom and contribute to the game. She didn't take any of them, and stuck to writing bathroom!porn, and thus it became subject of an in-joke, and she really didn't like the ridicule, threw a tantrum and quit.

Yes, and she had an unwholesome fetish for Asher, and guess who was stuck playing the poor (Soggy) bastard?

Generally, unless the purpose of the place was slash, which I've run across a few times, it's not until there's no plot left that the better players will start doing that.

Basically, it means the game is dying when it all goes to porn. No one has anything better to do. The game's lacking.

We managed to get through one game with some 36,000 posts with very little of that, really. Save for Indy. And that damned tub.

But we also had a FABULOUS villain. (He managed to blow up the council, and was working on taking over the world...VERY long story..obviously.) Plus, about fifty good side plots. I was personally playing about 125 NPCs and characters, and actually (And god only knows how) keeping track of all of them, keeping up with the board taggage, and playing out scenes in up to a dozen IMs at a time to post...and all of it for 11+ hours a day.

Kept that up for a few years.

Needless to say, I don't do that anymore. lol. (Sooo tired.) But man, it was fun. I now run a couple of smaller games, and am in a couple of others. We do a few hundred posts a month, and occasionally, there's an IM segment.

I write a whole lot more now that has NOTHING to do with LKH.

I did honestly love the early books, though, enough to hybridize that monster, and play it like mad in the day.

Part of why I'm so sad now over how the books have gone.

And suffice it to say, we wind up with just as much pr0ns, but with oodles more plot and the baddies are, in fact, badass. *pats self* Yes. I like the mantle of Resident Evil.
