I'm feeling kind of bored today and I decided to go see LKH blog and I realized that the thing that irritates me the most about her blogging is the way that she continues to capitalize all the letters in her book titles. I Just. Don't. Understand WHY. Has she not heard about italicizing? Doesn't she know how to do it? Is it some weird blogging thing I just don't understand? Another sign of her snowflakeness or her narcissism? I realize it's not that big a deal, but it sends it probably makes more irritated than anything she does.

Which makes me wonder
I'm not really talking about her writing anymore because I'm convinced that she jumped shark and can't possibly get it back. I just see no way that I could ever sympathize with Anita again. I basically gave up after that horrid conversation with Ronnie in . . . whatever book it was. I'm talking about the little things she does.

What's more irritating? Her use of commas, her annoying habit of having a grown woman call her lovers "sweeties", her complete disregard for continuity, or her thinly veiled homophobia and woman hate?

If you could meet LKH, what would you ask/tell her? I don't mean in a bitchy or disrespectful way either. What would you honestly ask her?

I think the thing that bugs me the most is the way the men are referred to as "sweeties". A lot of it is because every time she uses it, I hear the line from the White Witch in the movie The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe: "Because HE sold you out... for sweeties." >) Plus, it's just darned childish-sounding.

As for what I'd ask her... God, I don't know. Anything I might ask would get dismissed as hate-mongering, probably. Maybe something like "Do you understand why so many fans have stopped reading your books, and why do you think that is?" just to hear the answer. O.o

Well. My partner calls me sweetie as a term of affection, I have to admit, but it doesn't particularly bother me. That said, she's the only one I've ever allowed call me babe, so maybe I'm not one to talk. >.>

Capitalising titles of book is actually an accepted publishing practice. Most agents and editors prefer that over italics because emails etc. can only be in plain text format. So in the end, it boils down to personal preference. In a random tidbit of info, unpublished books are usually written all in caps to show that they are still unpublished.

I'd love to ask her why she hates her femininity so much. Since I suspect a lot of her recent readership are young teenage girls, I worry about the impressions they're getting about sex, femininity and gender issues. :/

I think her twisted view of feminism, femininity, and sexuality gnaw at me most, though it's a close call with her general arrogance (I recently re-read her Dear Negative Readers post and-- wtf, find a book series that doesn't make you think? And doesn't push you out of the mundane and make you uncomfortable? Just...what?).

I think I'd ask her what her life experiences as a woman have generally been that she feels the need to be so dominant. I mean, sure she was born in the early 60s, but gender equality things would have been chugging along nicely by the time she reached adulthood. Did she really grow up experiencing the blatant sexism that Anita consistently encounters and feels the need to preemptively disprove?

I *hate* the way she butchers Irish and Welsh mythology in the MG series. HATE IT. It also drives me insane that she feels the need to describe in detail what every single person is wearing. Repeatedly.

As for what I'd ask her...hmm. I think I would outright ask her if Anita enjoys sleeping with so many men. I'm genuinely curious to see what her answer would be.

I hate her views on "The God" and "The Goddess". I think she's been reading Silver Ravenwolf. She sounds like one big, "angsty" fluffy bunny.

What bugs me most is that she has the rare gift to be able to tell a fun, engrossing *story*, but doesn't seem to value it. Instead, she writes bad pr0n, something any hack with a keyboard could manage. What a waste!

If I could ask her anything, I think I'd ask why she's continuing the AB series at *all,* when she clearly has no real interest in it anymore beyond it being a vehicle for said pr0n. Seems like it'd make more sense to just strike out (no pun intended) in a new direction if her outlook has changed that much. Then she wouldn't have to deal with whiny "Old Skool Anita" fans like us, and she could set up another series like the MG books where pr0n is legitmately What It's All About.

To be totally honest, I probably wouldn't talk to her at all. I love meeting authors and talking to them, but I wouldn't give LKH the time of day, given the choice.

Here, have a slice of Word Pie.

I find it incredibly arrogant that she repeatedly makes her avatar the vessel of Danu. I just...GAH.

What irritates me the most is knowing that she can make a solid story that is fun to read, has unique characters, and a very full plot - yet she just dropped the ball on it. Fail. It's like taking the easy way out. Anyone can write pr0n. I'm not saying everyone can write GOOD pr0n. But not everyone can write a whole story. She could and she just gave up on it.

I hate Anita's overwhelming hypocrisy in her AB series, LKH's know-it-all stance on everything when she turns a "new" discovery of hers into a lecture for her readers (ugh.. her post about sex references), and her constant need to point to everything she does and say how it makes her un-feminine or dark or fearful whatever she's being that day. I could do with much less attention-whoring from her.

Oh god, and Anita's "let me test my understanding" for the most blatantly obvious hand-held explanations that are apparently too deep and machiavellian for her readers to grasp without this tired plot device.

What I'd ask... Why is she still writing when it's clear she doesn't enjoy it. Reading Strange Candy makes me wish for the days when she actually had something interesting in her mind.

What bugs me is that she thinks she's so alternative and that she knows things about bdsm.

It really pisses me off that she can make a living off of this drivel too when people who can actually write CAN'T.

She had talent, and she has the drive to get published. It takes both to become that successful, and I wish more people who had the first could develop the second. Then there wouldn't be room left for the crap she's spewing now. Superstardom would then require the person to continue putting out quality, because the competition would be fierce.

I didn't really like Anita's character when I read the first book, but she was relatable and that was okay with me so I continue but as we progress in the series, Anita doesn't "grow" in character and these long hypocritical lectures in the books just send the wrong message to readers and it wasn't fun or interesting anymore.

Anita, where are you? What's with this pod-Anita?

I think she's fake and unfortunate, like an adult trying to squeeze into toddler clothes. However, I think the way she describes her relationships with people is most annoying. It could just be terrible writing, but she seems disturbingly self-centered.

Now that I think about it, and eliminating what others have already said? It's the fact that no one in either of her bloody settings has the same hair colour. Every single character is Special and Unique (unless they're a) a blonde bitch or b) Merry's "hahahaha, you're a brunette, how lame" mother). Even fracking eye colour for God's sake, and the wangst about Belle Morte trying to Catch 'Em All with the blue-eyed vampires.

My question would probably be blog-related, along the lines of "Why the hell do you put so much personal information there and then expect people NOT to factor it into their assumptions about your writing?" And then I would show her the blog entry about first meeting her first husband side-by-side with any description of Richard EVER and ask her why the hell people were meant to ignore the fact that they're goddamn identical.

COMMAS. I'm kind of a grammar whore.

If I met her, I'd probably sputter incoherently in rage. If I could get any words out, I'd ask her if she has her books edited, and if she said yes (and I believed her) I'd tell her to fire her editor.

My problem with her is how she thinks she SO in the know about alternative life styles. My biggest gripe? Anita and Nathaniel. There so much wrong with this relationship that could totally be explored if you know... she knew what the fuck she was doing.

I think I'd ask her why doesn't she take a vacation. She's obviously burnt out. But maybe her blog is just angsty bulls&*t for the little goth wannabes.
