LKH in normal(ha!), my comments in bold.

http://blog.laurellkhamilton.org/2008/03/thanks-to-everyone.html

Thanks to everyone that gave so many positive messages on the My Space page. With Darla's encouragement I actually went out and read them.

Glad to know that the encouragement of your fans is so important that your personal assistant has to make you read it.

Here's to all my fellow gamers, either current or once upon a time, who feel a debt of gratitude to Gary Gygax. Here, too, a thank you to all of you who just wanted to send a note of encouragement to me. Your notes let me know I wasn't clear enough in the last blog. As opposed to things like re-reading, critical thinking, and reading comprehension that should've given you a frakkin' clue.

I never have doubts that the writing is what I was meant to do. I took just enough pre-med to know that medicine was not for me. The more real police I interview, the more I know I couldn't do it for real. Or rather, I don't want to have a job where life and death really hang on the line. I love that I can always rewrite tomorrow. I've written death scenes and undone them the next day. I like that about my job, and wish, only, that it could work the same in real life. As for being a politician or diplomat and help bring peace to the world, well, I just don't think I'm temperamentally suited to diplomatic work. I can be diplomatic when I must, but it's not my natural bent. That's putting it mildly.

Aha, so this is where all the commas that belonged in that preview chapter escaped to!

I am where I am supposed to be, doing what I was meant to do. There are simply days when I hear old voices telling me that what I do isn't exactly a serious job. I hear they've got pills to clear that up. Thanks for letting me know how much my writing has meant to all of you. Maybe this positive experience will help me look on the My Space page more often, and the forum, too. I've got to stop being such a big baby about the techcriticism someday.

I did figure out how to use a thumb drive so I could download files to print from other parts of the house this week. I had no choice, my techies were either sick or trapped home by nine inches of snow. But I did it, I managed to print my pages all week. Brownie point for me.

Well yay, queenie, you can figure out how to drag & drop. Hooray for you, have a cookie, and welcome to the year 2000.

Yeah, you think you and your nine inches of snow are a problem. Come to Columbus, Ohio; we've got AT LEAST a foot of the stuff in the last five hours.

But wait! What'd I miss with the gaming thing, because I can't wait to see how she ruins that.

Oh my god, LKH (while not currently playing now) played D&D at one point. I don't think I'll ever be able to look fondly on that game again. Why couldn't it have been Pokemon?

Makes me glad we play GURPS. =P (To be fair, we played D&D and got drunk Saturday night in celebration/mourning.)

Yeah, wewt for Ohio. I can go stand in no less than 15" of the stuff on my back porch.

Ha, maybe that'll put Doomcrotchzilla off it for a while. XD

The snow came, and immediately started melting the next day.... I was lucky - I only had like 2.5 inches out in the western metro area where I live. (about 50 miles west of her.)

So, she just needs to suck it up & deal w/ it. But wait, this is LKH! Everything is a trial to her! :-p

Yes, alas. I thought it was fairly clear in the FAQ, but I guess not.

Maybe it would help if the FAQ specified that you can get the link to any post on LKH's blog by clicking on the time at the bottom of the post? I was rather stymied when right-clicking on the post didn't produce a URL.

I'm confused she needs positive messages because Gary Gygax? The way she's written it sounds like the messages where about how even though Gary Gygax is dead she must continue bravely on.

My grandpa (who still has to be shown how to copy & paste on a weekly basis) is able to drag & drop from his thumb-drive to a desktop. In fact, he was able to do that without me showing him.

LKH = Fail.

Wait. Did she finally figure out that fictional characters don't really die or suffer if she writes a book where nasty things happen to them?

I want to read all these death scenes she wrote. Frankly, I won't believe they exist until she shows us proof.

Oh dude, have you READ her MeatSpace page? (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=159376603&blogID=364485028) The comments are mostly, "No! Everything you do is important to us!" and lots of gushing (sorry for the pun) tales of how AB:VH and MG has changed people's lives!

I sat there scrolling through with my eyes glazing over from the zombie plague I've got, and still managed to splutter, "stop giving me reasons to not get a MySpace!

That shit made me want to puke. She totally fished for it too.

Nine inches? NINE FUCKING INCHES? BITCH, PLEASE. My hometown got 96 inches of snow this winter, and that was as of about a month ago. We've had more snow since then, so I don't know what the tally is now. Nine inches is NOTHING.

I'd like to see Laurell shovel her way out of a typical driveway in Michigan with two feet of lake effect snow; she'd break down in fucking tears, she would.

From: [identity profile] easol.livejournal.com
Please mail me some of that snow, because we got a grand total of two inches ALL FUCKING WINTER. My poor brother has given up hope.

From: [identity profile] othellia.livejournal.com
Two inches? Heck, it probably hasn't snowed where I live since the Ice Age. However, I do second this mailing venture.

You are welcome to come up here and take all the snow you can carry. :)

At the risk of defending LKH just a tiny bit, nine inches of snow shut down my part of New Jersey a month ago. For some bizarre reason they didn't send the plows out until after 8:00 AM. Now I can shovel my driveway, but not the five miles to the nearest bus transit stop.

Wait, does she not go to her myspace/the forum because she's scared of seeing bad things written about her, or does she ONLY know how to use the computer for writing? Because, man, even Cassie Edwards knows how to use wikipedia...

From: [identity profile] dwg.livejournal.com
IIRC, she doesn't go into the forums after the old guestbook was full of, "OMG U SUK!" messages and Jon took it down. Basically, if she goes to visit any forum, it's after things have been filtered through Darla and/or Jon.

Date: 2008-03-09 02:28 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] zombiexbunny.livejournal.com
Well, as far as myspace goes, you can check to have all comments approved before allowing them to be seen. So I'm sure Jon or Darla checks them and removes the ones that they don't like.

I was wondering that earlier with another user as we were reading the comments. I had a theory that it was just the whole IQ drop of MySpace that contributed to how EVERYONE seems to agree with LKH.

Your Earth Logic and wiley internet ways makes much more sense. I tip my hat to you and offer e-cookies.

I've written death scenes and undone them the next day.

Seriously, she should have left them dead.

at least we now know why the books are swarming with characters that needed to be dead long ago..
