*Tips hat* Heyo, ladies and gentlemen, been watching this community for the hilarity Ms. Hamilton starts and you all compound for quite some time now, this is the first time I believe I've posted anything, but I found this highly amusing. I was in Borders today and happened to glance at a new book that came out from a Ms. Raven Hart. Now I know nothing about this book, nor do I know anything about the author. What caught my attention was one of those little blurbs of praise you see sometimes on the front and back of books, quotes from magazines and such. This one said something along the lines of "Fans of Laurell K Hamilton's earlier work will greatly enjoy this".

Specifically her -earlier- work.

It's not a scathing review, I know, but I found it highly amusing and it slightly restored my faith in humanity that they made the distinction XD

I've noticed a lot of blurbs like that on books. It seems like the most recent books don't even mention LKH but instead have blurbs from Kim Harrison, Kelley Armstrong, or Jim Butcher on them.

I just started Raven Hart's first book today. The cover looks like it's smutty, the title sounds smutty, the authors' (it's a team) pen name sounds smutty, the premise sounds smutty but my library has it in the general fiction section and apparently it's not smutty enough to be like modern LKH. That's pretty funny.

Yeah, I've seen other books in the genre say the same thing. I find it funny too. :)

If you don't mind me asking, why boycott suicide girls?

I've seen variations on that. "Early Anita Blake" or "Vintage Anita Blake" or whatnot.

So basically... most of the official reviewers thinks she's gone to crap too, but they probably value their jobs, so they spin their words in a way that doesn't sound as insulting ;)

Translation: If you like vampires, werewolves and urban fantasy, but not endless torrents of pointless plotless sex with the aforementioned werewolves and vampires.

The Raven Hart series is okay. Other than written from two points of view, it is pretty much a vampire type world ala White Wolf Games original Kindred game (aka Vampire). The writing is decent though and it is fine for mind candy.
