[identity profile] ladymuttly1.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] lkh_lashouts

Please, somebody flog this blog: http://blog.laurellkhamilton.org/2008/07/girl-bonding.html

In the mean time did I read this right?

"But, I wasn’t carrying on Sunday. It’s a pain in the ass to have a weapon on you when you’re trying on clothes. I figured, how dangerous can it be, going shopping? Yeah, right."

Did LKH just tell the world that she carries a gun around St. Louis on a regular basis? And then there's this, "I’ve said for years, I hope I never get mugged while I’m writing one of these books, because I am not Anita. I do not have her training, and I worry, every once in awhile, that I’ll forget that when it’s important."

If LKH has a gun permit is there anyway of getting it revoked on the basis that she's crazy?

My ex's dad actually carried most of the time. As long as you have a legal permit and have gone through training, it's not all that unusual.

As for the Anita part, yeah, batshit crazy.

I'm all for people carrying, as long as it's legal in their state and the have the appropriate paperwork/training/whatnot...

But the Anita comment? LKH is batshit crazy. She's the reason there should be a psych screening before being allowed to carry a gun. She doesn't have martial arts training, fin, whatever. But she's licensed (we hope) to carry a gun...i.e. to defend herself if she needs to??? Hasn't she had an training in shooting a gun???? (I know that's not required in all states, but it's a damn good idea none the less). Because if she really has absolutely no self-defense training (whether martial or gun) AND she's carrying a gun, she's a bigger danger to society than she previously seemed.

Re: training, she's made mention of going to shooting ranges in the past.

Course, she reminds me of that insane lady from Psych who snatched away Lassiter's giant gun, fired it, lost her grip, and broke it. She may know how to aim and fire, but nothing else.

pompous paranoid twunt! cos carrying a gun would have soled everything wouldn't it laurell love? perhaps we would have all got lucky and you'd have accidently shot yourself in TEH DOOM CROTCH.

and wtf??? "Oh, and there are men that I wouldn’t be as happy to see if trouble happens. Some men, like some women, are just one more person to worry about. Again, part of this is me being deep into an Anita book, it screws with my thinking" - I want to know whose thinking was screwed when they gave you a license to carry a gun you muppet!

I'm surprised she didn't bang her tiny fist on the desk and shriek at them, "I'm a federal marshal and vampire executioner! I need four guns just to take a crap, because my life is so dangerous! Gimme a giant phallic weapon RIGHT NOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW.... Chaaaaarles, this guy's being mean to me!"

"One more person to worry about"? Because if trouble happens, obviously she'd be of great use, and everybody else would just cower behind her because she has a GUN and she's so BIG AND TOUGH. Remember, no man is as tough as Laumerita and her metal penis -- they'd just be in the way!

Seriously, depending on the level of her insanity, she'd either charge at them because obviously she's Anita and subsequently get shot, or snivel on the ground and whimper at them not to hurt her.

Hoh'shit.

She is the last person I want carrying a gun. Besides serial killers and gangs and all that, but I mean like... normal person. That kind of gives me the heebie jeebies that she would FORGET SHE'S NOT ANITA. A FUCKING FICTIONAL CHARACTER!

That right there should be enough to get that damned license of hers revoked.

People who forget they're not fictional characters are NOT sane.

Besides serial killers

Actually, most serial killers are hands on. I think only a handful have used guns. Most prefer to strangle or blungen their victims. The only killers I can think of that used guns were Zodiac and Son of Sam. I think there was one more, but I'm drawing a blank.

Oh, that's just peachy. I can just see somebody dropping a copy of War and Peace on the tile during a book signing, and LKH opening fire at Barnes and Noble. Somehow, the "I thought I was my badass fictional character" defense won't hold up in court when she shoots someone.

All kidding aside, she's a little nuts which makes this a lot scary. I'm glad she posts her travel schedule so I know where not to be.

As someone who just got robbed at gunpoint yesterday, I can say quite honestly that if Laurell were ever faced with an armed assailant, she probably wouldn't even have the presence of mind to draw her gun. (I didn't have the presence of mind to do anything other than stay calm enough to keep the guy from shooting me while I handed over my wallet and laptop bag.) Nor would carrying the gun do anything to ameliorate the situation, especially if she's untrained and acting erratically. She'd just prompt the assailant to shoot first; armed assailants are far less likely to shoot if they don't feel threatened, because just having the gun gives them a distinct advantage. Give their victim a gun, the advantage vanishes, and so they'll cause bodily harm to regain that advantage and make sure they get you before you get them. It usually takes training to project the confidence required to wield a gun in the face of armed attack and still force the attacker to back down.

So talking about how she carries regularly just makes her look entirely stupid, rather than as edgy as she tries to sound.

"It usually takes training to project the confidence required to wield a gun in the face of armed attack and still force the attacker to back down."

Like a REAL cop or a REAL military person, not the fake knowledge that she pretends to have or the glaring cliches she fills her books with.

LKH carrying one makes me very nervous. She has such a warped sense of reality as it is when she snaps someone could get seriously hurt.

It seems to me that even with the whole concealed carry thing here in MO, that most businesses put up signs saying "NO WEAPONS". I wonder if LKH thinks she's the exception to the rule...It wouldn't surprise me.

I also can't imagine that LKH would take herself anyplace in St. Louis that might be considered "dangerous". So why does she need a gun? Do overzealous fans threaten her so much?

As a Canuck I am constantly aghast at the way folks in the U.S. so nonchalantly discuss handguns regardless of which end of them you are on. It is almost as if it is oblivious water cooler talk. So matter of fact about the acceptance of them within the culture. It blows my mind. Just wrong wrong wrong.

Yes sirreee, I can just see the headlines now.....

Sexy author *rolls eyes* LKH kills 30 of her fans, during a book signing!! The author in question claims self defense on the grounds that quote
"OMG gosh, so like these people just started questioning me about where the hell the plot is, and why can't I write a coherent story, and like I'm thinking...What would Anita do?? Cause you know she's like my muse and all and she speaks to me.... And like I did research in the Magazine Guns & Ammo on how to handle scary people, so I opened fire in self defense"

Sure LKH, I'm sure this defense will stand up in court. I honestly thought you guys were joking that this woman actually owns and carries a gun. Scary!!!

Ye gods... See, this is why I think the "outlawing guns won't stop criminals from getting hold of them" pro-gun argument is beside the point. Sure, there's no way to stop criminals from packing, but you can keep deadly weapons out of the hands of technically-law-abiding nutcases!

Date: 2008-07-29 10:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] easol.livejournal.com
Ultimately guns are beside the point anyway. If she weren't packing a gun, she'd probably fill her pockets with more traditional weaponry -- probably lots of knives in heavily-described sheaths on this or that body part.

http://crime.about.com/od/gunlawsbystate/a/gunlaws_mo.htm

Basically, she doesn't need a permit to buy a gun.

She doesn't need a license to own a handgun.

She doesn't have to register a handgun.

All she needs to carry a concealed weapon is a concealed carry endorsement on her Missouri driver's license OR a permit to carry concealed weapons issued by any state.

Anyone who is 23 or over, a citizen of the U.S. and a resident of Missouri for six months or more can apply for a concealed carry endorsement.

There are a few things that keep you from getting that endorsement--being convicted of a felony, being convicted of one or more misdemeanors involving violent crimes, being a fugitive or a convict, being convicted of more than one DUI charge, being a drunk, being habitually drugged--as well as two that should really apply to Laurell:

Adjudicated mentally incompetent at the time of application, or five years prior to the application, or has not been committed to a mental institution.

Engaged in a pattern of behavior that leads the sheriff reasonably to believe the applicant would be a danger to himself or others.

If the person is acceptable by law, they get a background check, fingerprinting and firearms training. If they pass muster that way, they get the endorsement.

Carrying a concealed weapon into stores or a mall is not, regrettably, illegal in Missouri. There are a ton of places where you can't take a gun, but a mall isn't one of them.

Hi, Lady:

Nope, being crazy, unfortunately, doesn't automatically suspend a concealed carry permit.

One of these days, though, when she's "deep into an Anita book", she IS going to forget that she isn't WhoreNita, and she's going to PULL that gun. Deos gratis, I pray, let it just be WAVING the gun around, and NOT pulling the trigger!

Blessings,

God help us. Remember the one blogpost where she claims the wolves howl in approval when she reads choice juicy bits from her train wreck novels, suuureee she's not crazy, nope, NOT!!!
