That first hard cold of winter always makes me want to hibernate, like a bear. I just want to climb into my den, and not come out until Spring. I’ll feel better later, but that first cold snap seems to make me resent having to continue with life as normal. It’s Winter, damn it, we should be able to sleep more, when the frost makes the grass crunchy underfoot, and the roses are black with the freeze. So, in that grumpy bear mood, I’ll leave you with a brief list of things I did today. I got eight pages on the next Anita book: SKIN TRADE. Business meetings. Phonecalls. Signing things. Meals. Meditation. Tired. Thanks for all the positive feedback on SWALLOWING DARKNESS.

Now, I get to go hibernate, at least for seven hours, or so. For tomorrow morning; brrr.

"Skin Trade."

...

The title of book 18 is going to be a dick reference. Callin' it now.

I know we always snark on the terrible use of commas. Granted.
However, I have now begun to doubt every comma I use. After reading this woman's blogs I have become so paranoid about comma use that I hardly dare to use one, even if I think it is correct. Then I'm all like, "is that right? Wrong? Gah!!! I can't tell anymore!"
I think we need to name this syndrome.
Hamiltoncommabusaphobia?

Err... since when was it winter? Last I checked it was still fall. At least here in the northern hemisphere.

Dunno where she lives, but here in the Pacific Northwest, it's pretty cold at night, and some of the rain has been freezing. No frost yet as far as I know, though, and the temp's pretty typical for our fall.

And don't most people wish they could hibernate or avoid the cold weather? It's like rainy days or something.

You know, I understand that her blog is theoretically a professional one and that therefore she shouldn't write it as though there are people following every single post. But does she really have to write "the next Anita book, SKIN TRADE, which by the way is called SKIN TRADE, and is the next Anita book" every time she mentions it?

We had like, two days of light snow up here about a week and a half, two weeks ago D: Nothing since, though...

Thanks for all the positive feedback on SWALLOWING DARKNESS.

Buh? I'm gonna take a wild guess here and say that Darla is keeping all the "WTF? How is this *not* the last book what with the bad guy/major plot points dead?" reviews away from LKH.

She's been blogging recently about living in Missouri, a swing state. Given where her Anita books are set, I'd say she lives in or around St. Louis.

Given that it's bloody freezing out there and I'm reading this from under my warm blanket, I can't help but agree with the hibernation part.

I kind of feel this way too at times, but then I just remember the horror of comma-splices and the glory of semi-colons, this type of specific clause that I can't remember the name of right now, and the golden-rule of commas when it comes to conjunctions. If it's not a list and the second half of the sentence isn't an independent clause, don't use it.

Ex.

Incorrect: I just want to climb into my den, and not come out until Spring.

Wouldn't it be easier to just say something like SKIN TRADE (Anita) or SWALLOWING DARKNESS (Merry)? I realize she has two series with similar titles, but shorten woman! You figure the same people read the blog day after day after day so we're going to remember.

Of course, this is the same woman who has to describe the same man in what seems to be EVERY FREAKING PARAGRAPH!

Ah, there is a huge difference! Men in the Merry series can have all sorts of hair/eye colors! In the Anita series, men have to be more... normal? Egh, forget it, I just remembered Nathaniel and his pruple eyes... or something. :p

SKIN TRADE... makes me think of those SAW movies, actually. I've never seen any one of them, but the images of body parts and rotten skin... all related. "SKIN TRADE" as the title of a horror (oops, I mean bad p0rn book) is awful. Could be interesting if the story was actually related to the title and it was something about slavery in the 21st century for example; or child labor; or even racial prejudice. Anything that had the just a little bit to do with the title. O___O

I guess it sounds less poetic to be precise about it, and point out that it will technically be fall for what, another month?

And I'm midway down the East Coast, and it's definitely still fall in my neck of the woods. Cold yes, but still recognizably fall.

Oh, they're VERY different. Merry is supposed to get knocked up with superspeshul babies that further highlight her awesomeness. But Anita being knocked up would be the MOST HORRIBLE THING EVER AND WOULD BE WORSE THAN DEATH...

Very true.

As another New Englander, I don't say it's winter until the end of December or when we hit a foot of snowfall. Whichever comes first. :)

It was in the 40s in the metro St. Louis area last week.

For two days.

The week before that, it was in the 70s.

It's 51 right now (9:37 p.m. St. Louis time).

It is going to get cold later this month, though.
