"Flirt"???

In case anyone didn't know, the title for the next Anita Blake book is apparently . . . Flirt. Discussion seems to indicate that this is another "novelite" but this is still a rather odd title considering her usual naming patterns. On the other hand, a book titled "Flirt" isn't even pretending to be a darkity-dark vampire book, which is a lot more honest than the past few. Not to mention, it's due to be published in just a few months. What is LKH thinking?

Flirt's due for release in February next year, and it's already been written and had at least one edit. Last I heard, it was back in NY.

She's been talking about it for awhile in the blog here and there. I think it started life as some extra book for Jason, but I could be wrong.

This is the "short piece" that she wrote after her agent came for a "Come to Jesus" talk about how late Divine Misdemeanors was back in April/May. LKH got the pob date for DM moved to December from October. She got sidetracked by writing this "novelette" because it just came out like Micah did when she was supposed to be writing Danse Macabre. Actually, IMHO at least, LKH wrote this to show her agent and publisher that no one tell her what to do.

It might have been okay when LKH temporarily bumped one Anita book for another, but I can't imagine that her Merry publisher, Ballantine, is delighted by her writing an extra book for Berkley while she was ridiculously late on their contracted book.
