Forgive me but I really want to share. I looked through the most recent posts and it seems that no one has made mention of this.

In the Kitty Norville series the latest book has a woman call Kitty's radio show.
The kicker is that the woman's story sounds like Anita's.
Again I ask forgiveness. I didn't say much because I dance around spoiling it for other people. And no this is a different book that made mention of another bounty hunter. The one in that previous post, Kitty had met in person.

This one is a caller on her radio show. The conversation took a turn about bounty hunters and somebody asked why they didn't come out in public and were they even needed if the 'freaks' don't seem to be taking over. The next caller is a female bounty hunter who calls in saying that "you have no idea what's out there." She goes on about how people like her "sacrifice everything to keep the rest of you safe."

Kitty's respsonse is that she senses a lot of anger. The caller's response is that she's angry about a lot of things. Kitty calls her on the tough act stating that maybe the caller just wants to be appreciated for her work and asks if the caller has any friends. At first I didn't realize this was Anita until there was mention of boyfriend. Anita-caller says she has several and the relationships aren't going very well. Kitty is being a sympathetic ear and letting the caller get it all out. The caller says that it feels her guys are always judging her and says they are way too good for her. "They deserve someone better, someone who isn't always getting into trouble, who doesn't have my temper. Someone prettier."
Kitty then tells the Anita-caller she's not qualified to offer the caller guidance and inquires if the caller ever considered counseling.

Anita-caller's response?
"Counseling? I don't need help. I'm not weak." She then hangs up.

I got a real kick out of the whole scene. Forgive me for the earlier oddball post. I had just finished cramming for an exam tomorrow and reading this perk me up to the point I lost myself for a bit.

Just a mod note: Could you add specifics to this post- perhaps the excerpt in question? Right now it's just sort of a, "Hey look! An inside joke that, right now, only I get!"

Thank you! This is actually pretty funny and it does make one wonder if the author has the same disdain for Hamilton's books that we do.

Carrie Vaughn, the author of the Kitty books, often analyzes literature and writing in her blog, Filling the Well.

She doesn't specifically say too much, but the impression I get is "the first6/9 books were okay, but the last several are awful."

Yes please do share. It won't be a spoiler. :)

I'm not there in the series yet but did a quick scan. Is it the angry bounty hunter who has 'several boyfriends' and Kitty advises to get counselling?

That bounty hunter got mentioned quite awhile ago here (http://community.livejournal.com/lkh_lashouts/468594.html), if anyone's curious about more info.

Yes, Vaughn likes to snark on the kickass heroine in general. One of her posts was on the cliches of the genre and how ridiculous they are.

Haha, that's pretty funny :)

Incidentally, how are the Kitty books? I've heard of them and they seem like they could be enjoyable, but then again, they all always *seem* that way at first.... :P

I didn't think I would like Kitty, she seemed sort of wimpy in the first book. She got over that. Read at least the first two books then decide.

I've only read the first two Kitty books, but I thought there were a few anti-LKH jabs (both Anita and ... the effect LKH has had on the genre). The Kitty books definitely aren't my favourite, but it's nice to get the perspective of someone who's NOT in power and, from the looks of it, is going to stay that way.

I've read all the Kitty books and the series is my current favorite. Vaughn is really good at character and plot development, and I especially like her take on vampires.

I think the call-in scene that yinyang refers to is the one on p24-26 in the most recent book, Kitty's House of Horrors. It just screams Anita Blake ;-D

I didn't particularly care for the first book in the series. I read the second one mainly because I bought it at the same time that I bought the first (I am terrible at impulse control when it comes to books). I am glad that I did. The second book was a much stronger book and the series has just continued to improve.

I read "Kitty's House of Horrors" in one day (and I worked 7.5 hours that day!) as I just could not put it down. It was great fun.

I liked the series, I'm a few books in and so far so good. Her Bounty hunter Brenda actually reminded me of Anita a fair bit, and I thought at the time she was having a bit of fun with LKH lol.

I'm ashamed to admit, but I think I might be a closet Sue fan, I love to mock them, and call them on their outrageous behavior, but I always just fall straight into wish fulfillment mode when I read a book with a good Sue, and then I can't get enough. As much as I enjoyed the Kitty books, I actually missed having a sue present lol. Patricia Briggs I found much more enjoyable, I think because despite having great characters (who feel real, and are well developed) there is still a small element of sueishness to them that I like.

LKH's sue's are not included in this statement lol. Anita used to be one of my all time fav's but no, I can't ignore the absolutely horrific things she does, and deludes herself into thinking are ok. Its just painful to read now, and not just because of the spelling, sentence structure etc.
