Those are pretty much my thoughts, too. I'm pretty sure that Can He Bake a Cherry Pie? is the first actual new short story that she's written for an anthology (or recycled, as per "The Girl Who Was Infatuated With Death" as that popped up in <>Strange Candy too) for years. So it really would not surprise me if this was straight up a chapter or two excised from the book without any further editing or explanation.
