I'm doing Wizard World St. Louis ComiCon on Saturday March 23, 2013, yes, this month. Doing a signing at Left Bank Books, and a panel. What panel topic would you like to see me do, with other authors, or by my lonesome? No promises that suggestions will be used, but maybe.

We have already torn this up on the Amazon board. She showed up on the guest list yesterday and so far she hasn't been noted on any panels.

So, is she just expecting to get a panel spot or does she know something that we don't?

No clue...my guess she might be reqesting one or it'll be alast minute addition.

Does that happen a lot? Sounds kind of unprofessional to me, but I have no idea how publishing or the business of being an author works.

Also shouldn't a big name like her have been scheduled more in advance?

My guess is that they might have extended her a token invite, she IS a local author after all. I've seen cons change the line up of guests up till the day before it opens, things can change at the last moment.

So it's possible they gave her an invite and suggestion of a panel either they didnt' expect her to respond, or she did at the last moment.

This is also a new con for St. Louis, so I'm sure they're still figuring things out re:guests and panels.

Ok, I'm confused. A panel discussion is one that by definition has several participants. How can she do one by herself?

Why does it say "All books will be pre-signed"? Is that typical?
/has never been to a book-signing

I think so in some cases. I know that at one point, already-signed books by Brian Jacques were still available at a bookstore after he was gone.

Some authors only pre-sign, but it's more typical for there to be a few stacks of pre-signed books for people who don't have the time or don't want to wait in line for a more personal inscription from the author. The last four years or so LaLa has only been doing pre-signed books.

What's the point in suggesting things if she immediately tells everyone that they probably won't be used? Sigh.

It's her way of indirectly telling people that she's having an appearance. I have no personal knowledge, but I think this was decided at the last minute, maybe at the instigation of her publishers who told her she's going to have to do more than a four or five event "tour" for this book.
