A day of working on the new Merry Novel, A Shiver of Light. I finished copy edits on a brand new Anita novella yesterday. Did I mention I was working on copyedits? The title for the novella is, Dancing.

My muse seems to have hit overdrive lately. Ideas, some Anita, some Merry, some brand new - short stories, novels, and every size in between. I used to joke that to write all the ideas I had I'd need to live to be at least two hundred, but at this rate more like three hundred. *laughs* But even I'm amazed at this new out pouring of creativity. So many cool ideas, new worlds, new characters, new thoughts. It's almost as if everything I went through this year has unleashed me, and set me free to explore everything.

1) She's finished copy edits? Shouldn't it be her copy editor who does that and then she finishes approvals?

2) Why do I disbelieve the outpouring of creativity? Oh, yeah, that's right, because she hasn't been terribly creative in ages, and what new characters she comes up with fit into cookie cutter holes.

Actually, a lot of writers go through several rough edits of their own work before handing it over to a professional editor (or more). That does make sense.

Now, if she's talking about FINAL edits on her own work, yeah, she's full of it.

Yay. A novella where Anita learns about dancing from Nathaniel and Jason and how dancing is like sex and how sexy dancing is and how stripping is dancing and how Anita was never sexy as a child but is now a beautiful dancery dancer who dances in bed because dancing is like sex and she's the best at sex dancing, inspired by that one time Laurell saw dancing or had sex or whatever.

Plus how women are all such shitty dancers compared to men. Anita is the only woman in the whole wide world who can dance as well as the wonderful marvelous perfect men in their maleness for she is the manliest woman of all, while also being the only truly pretty sexy woman in the whole wide world.

Anita never realised until just this second how traumatic that experience was and how much it's shaped her attitude towards dancing as an adult, but now she's worked the issue she's going to own dancing and do it with whoever she wants.

I'm willing to bet good cup of tea that the novella will be released as an ebook but not printed.

I'd also be more impressed about her creative streak if it wasn't so very likely that it's a rehash of things we've seen from her before or if she could string a decent plot together again.

Refresh my memory...what has she been through in the past year that's so traumatic that it acted as a catalyst to "unleash" her? As I'm drawing a blank. That's part me being sarcastic about her being melodramatic over how hard her life is, and part me honestly not remembering if there was something huge or even just an avalanche of smaller things.

She was sick for a long time and the doctors couldn't figure out what it was. Having gone through that (twice), I understand how it can be traumatic. Otoh, this is LKH. She could mean that Jean-Claude didn't love her new haircut.

Ah, that makes sense. Yeah, I can understand if that was something weighing on her pretty heavily throughout the year; long-term illness can really drag you down mentally as well as physically. (I've been there, too. Not fun.)

...then again, like you said, it could just be that someone made a snarky comment about those boots in her author photo, and now her life is over.
