I'm done! I typed, The End, this morning on the new Merry Gentry novel, A Shiver of Light! I made the deadline so it will be in your hot, eager hands June 4, 2014!

Dear Laurell:

Your concept of "making the deadline" seems about as fuzzy as your concept of "consent."

Hie thee to a dictionary, madame. Please.

No love,
DS, who is currently shuddering in horror at the thought of a four-month production cycle from first draft to drop date

Editing is apparently for others and not her.

I'm almost going to miss this string of procrastination updates.

Then again, maybe now we'll get, "I work so hard, I need a vacation!" updates.

Or "My publisher is such a mean jealous hater!", "My agent NEVER LOVED ME!!!", and "Hey guys, I'm getting self-published! Yea!" updates...

Entirely possible, lol.

What I wonder is: how prolific would she be as a self-published author? I imagine the deadlines act as some sort of impetus to finish projects. So if she's on her own schedule, are books going to sit half-finished forever, or will she finally rediscover the joy in her writing and keep at it?

(The above assumes that she's lost the joy in her writing, which is what it sounds like whenever she talks about it.)

I predict many, many, many e-specials.

Because that's exactly what the series needed. More Shutdowns.

I just made an audible "Bleugh" sound.

Why, does she use, commas, instead, of, quotation marks?

I edit the porn I write solely for my husband more than LKH edits the junk she's paid for. Argh.

You care for and respect your husband. Hamilton doesn't care for OR respect her readers.

Tbh, the editing is really more for myself than for him. I don't understand how a writer can disrespect her own craft so much. It's disrespecting herself.

Analogous to how Anita will only have sex with "monsters", and only if there's some element of noncon?

That, and she really does think she 's spewing 90% gold. And anyone who says otherwise is a jealous hater. Jon Micah tells her Anita so.

In all honesty, she's probably screwed-up because she knows everything isn't as perfect as she'd like people to believe, but she can't admit it, doesn't know what to do, and banished everyone with the spine to speak honestly to her years ago.

Now that I think of it, Ellen Radborne is an awful lot like LKH. Certainly more than Anita is, except for the wardrobe.

If there's one thing you cant count on her for - it's the free entertainment she provides us.

Hack the deadlines and commas and the edits - pure gold her FB account is kind of makes up for them.

"I made the deadline so it will be in your hot, eager hands June 4, 2014!"

So does anyone else think ANY TIME before June 4th constitutes 'making the deadline' for LKH?

As long as you can run a spell check program on it...it's good. I mean since 95% (her number) of her first draft is GOLD and all!

Imma ban LKH from saying "hot" and "eager" in the same sentence ever again. Especially when it's addressed to an unspecified "you".

Nonsense. A single word changed makes the sentence reasonably accurate. ;)

I made the deadline so it will be in your hot, eager furnace June 4, 2014!

You know, I am normally one that would never, ever mistreat a book. I tend to love and treasure them.

...However, years ago, I burned Incubus Dreams in my fire place during a cold winter's night.

I cackled in glee as I did it.

To date, that is the only book I've ever burned. :P

If anyone were to give me her books, I'd likely make art projects out of them, like that person did with their copy of Pandora. >:D
