She claims she's happy a lot, usually defensively, but she doesn't show it at all. In Danse Macabre, she yells at Richard that she's happy sleeping with all these guys, but she has to be talked into/forced into/manipulated into doing it every time, and she's miserable throughout the book. It ends up looking like the John Waite song "Missing You," where he claims in the chorus he's not missing her at all no matter what his friends say, while talking in the verse about how his heart is breaking. Except that song is honest. And not as repetitive, though it's really repetitive.
