So many of you ask me to come visit your part of the world, that I’m going to try and do more conventions and make more appearances. I will be a guest at FairieCon East November 7 – 9, 2014 in Hunt Valley, Maryland. I will be doing at least a signing a day, and panels! They’re opening up the big room for my spotlight panel which is a one on one conversation rather than a straight interview. I’m not exactly sure what that means either, but we’ll find out together.

The more of you that show up for my events at FairieCon East, the more likely I am to do more conventions and events on the east coast. I’m responding to two things; first that FairieCon has been asking me to be a guest for a few years now, and second, that so many east coast fans have consistently requested that I come back to their neck of the woods. So here’s your chance to see me in person, have me sign something for you, and give me more incentives to travel and meet all of you.

So conversely, if not enough people show up, Laurell feels unloved and never goes to a con again?

Why is she calling it FairieCon when right in the banner she posted it says it's called FaerieCon? It's not a one time mistake, she does it for the entire post. Does she not read or does she simply not care? Either way it certainly doesn't look professional (I know professionalism and LKH are not two things that go together but I keep hoping that one day she'll wake up and take her writing seriously).

I find the way she says "if you want me to do x, you must do y" really unpleasant. This isn't the first time she's done it. Obviously if no one comes to see her, she's not going to return, but that's so obvious it doesn't need to be said. Laying it out in clear terms like this makes it look like she thinks all her readers are small children.

I've known people with similar personalities. They really do act as though they're talking to small children all the time.

They also have comprehension issues, so it may be that they're trying to act superior and that's literally the next level down for them. When they make statements like that, you can *hear* in their voices that they think they're being very profound. (It's also openly present in the Anita and Merry books, when Anita/Merry makes a shallow and often-wrong statement to an Ignorant Mundane and it's treated as a sagely insight. So I'll take that as confirmation.)

It's quite unnerving to watch it happen in a conversation. The cognitive dissonance is striking.

I get seriously ticked off when I feel condescended to, so I'm glad I haven't run into these people irl. (The people who condescend to me irl are usually about 80 years old, and I feel like they've earned it :P.)

So, I may be showing my age (and prejudices) here, but it really sounds a lot like what used to happen when I first got into fandom. Authors leaving little notes on their multi-chapter fics, saying something along the lines of "IF I DON'T GET X NUMBER OF COMMENTS, I WON'T POST THE NEXT BIT!!11!" It was juvenile then, it's juvenile now.

It's like she's holding herself hostage. Only problems with that tactic is a. she's super transparent about it, and b. ain't nobody wants her.

That fits with how her writing took a precipitous turn into the worst kind of fanfic territory a while back.
