From the Amazon.com review of Danse Macabre, which I hadn't even realized came out today:

That Anita has no detecting to do may disappoint some fans...

and

When the vampire ballet takes the stage toward the end, several new plot elements emerge. The very lack of a finale suggests that there's no end in sight for this fabulously imagined series.

Would you all care to join me in a hearty *headdesk*?

WHY? Why? I was just at two separate bookstores and there it was, staring at me. Of course, at 40% off, it's no wonder the thing still sells. I pre-ordered mine off of Amazon this winter and got the alert the other day that it shipped, so I'm still waiting to see how very bad it is....

It's 33% off at the Chapters in Toronto. -_- That's over $11 off. Of course it sells.

Oh, Jesus, that thing's out already, is it?

And, holy crap, the one review that's up is NOT encouraging. O.O

Anita doesn't fire her gun even once in this entire novel. She also never uses her knives. Detectives Dolph and Zerbrowski don't appear and aren't mentioned. Ronnie has one scene at the start, but that's it; she isn't referred to again.

*HEADDESK*

Anita cries about things pretty often, in general, but this was the first time you really see her start having a serious, real mental breakdown.

O RLY?

Anita gains some nifty powers using her necromancy; these new abilities are acquired late in the book and are sort of glossed over...

SHOCKED, I TELL YOU.

The lack of a crime investigation and any real fight scenes somehow made the huge amount of sex going on a little less palatable. [...] Almsot all she did, this book, was have sex, worry about her pregnancy, and alternatively comfort/argue with the men around her.

*HEADDESKSQUARED*

That's just...I wash my hands of supporting this fucking series and its author. I'm not even buying a new copy in paperback...I'll get mine second-hand.

I've spent much time reading over the wankeries of authors like Hamilton, McCaffrey, and Rice in order to prevent myself from becoming anything like them. That and it's t3h funny. XD

Yes, Anne McCaffrey, of god-modding fame and known for making some very strange statements about gay men. And then he was gay from the tent peg, yo.

I don't support downloading books. I think the author's should get their money. But I would download it just so I can bilk her out of the cash or whatever. But then again if I did that..I would feel obligated to read it..and I have no desire at all to read that trash.

I've got it in my hand right now, and OH GOD IS IT AWFUL. Porn, porn, terribly written and repetitive porn. Oh, and more speshul powers.

I am waiting with baited breath to hear the reviews here..there is actually a person on here that goes chapter by chapter...Her comments are beyond funny..so it breaks up the book and I don't go unconcious from "head desk-ing" through out the book.

But the concept is so freaking cool though. A Vampire Ballet!!! I love that!!! Makes me even more angry.

I haven't found a vampire ballet. Only sex. And the biggest honkin' Sue I've seen since Jean Auel's Ayla. :(

The review says they only appear much later in the book. (I don't think I ruined anything for you by telling you that..I hope. I am sorry If I did. )

That's ok, I'm mostly skimming. I did find it finally - it lasted for less than ten pages. I'm not sure there's a sex scene in the book that short.

I went to Barnes&Noble today. Picked up and splurged on many books.

Saw Danse Macabre on sale. Shuddered and avoided it, revolted just looking at it. The mere sight of the cover melted my eyes. I couldn't believe it was actually out. Didn't think it would come out until July.

*winces*

You know, I used to eagerly snatch up her books in the old days...now I cringe every time I see them. And yes, the vampire ballet was a cool concept. Too bad LKH has to ruin it for us all. Hell, she kind of ruined erotica for me. I used to like it, now I like it a little less.

I still lament the fall of my once favorite series. I now cling to fanfiction more tightly than ever.

And that one review in here...it sounded, dare I say, almost nice. Certainly more generous than the piece of garbage that is this book. I might pick up the paperback version, should I be able to pluck up my courage to do so.

Wish me luck then. In the meantime, I have many other novels to keep myself occupied with. Writers that haven't gone crazy. Like Kim Harrison, for example. She's a great replacement for Anita Blake. Read her, she's good.

I couldn't figure out Harrison's second book. It read like I was drunk and not grasping at every sentence properly.

I own it and read the summary/outline that [livejournal.com profile] dwg wrote and I -still- couldn't properly tell you what the hell happened in that freakn book.

I liked the first one, but I'm scared of the third one because the second one was so badly written and/or edited.

Otherwise, the only series I read since Anita went wacko are Harry Potter, the In Death series by JD Robb (aka Nora Roberts, but I don't like her other books) and the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.

it had a kind of plot, blood, and killing. and some sex.
try the library first. that is what i am doing now.
as far as dm, i'll wait for paperback then add it to the collection on the wall but i dont need to read it.

Au contraire, the end is so very, very night. At least, for the fandom.

I will be disappointed if a lot of the x_core fans do not desert.

I need this book, like, NOW. It's like having a front row seat to the apocalypse. I'm enjoying watching the fandom implode.

Still, who here is actually surprised that A) there's no detecting - y'know, other than "whose penis is that?" - or B) the ballet, the whole reason for the book to exist, is pushed to the rear and glossed over?

Anyone? Beuller?

This has been tried before - and by the time the book gets shipped to me, it's hit the shelves in my humble town.

So really, just sit back and wait and pray that I get a job soon.
