Blog Flog: STRANGE CANDY (so important, it needs all caps, baby!)
Link: http://blog.laurellkhamilton.org/2006/10/strange-candy.html

LKH in bold.

Jon and I dressed up. He did a suit and I even did stiletto heels.

I admit it. I initially misread that as "Jon did a slut" and then told myself to be nice.

Although "did" should not be the verb of choice for "stiletto heels" in LKH's world, because you never know when it's literal.

people just didn't feel compelled to come out and play. Or it maybe that this is the third event we've had in St. Louis this year.

Or maybe people are just getting sick of your theatrics. Even her drama isn't anything new, so if you've already seen her once at an event, why go again? Oh, black wardrobe! Oh, bodyguards! Oh, the doting Jon! Take a picture and instead of going to the event, look at the pic. It's cheaper.

So many familiar faces remarked over and over

Maybe because you're really not attracting that many new readers. I don't care what "the numbers" say. Most supernatural fans I've talked to in my area are ashamed that LKH is in the genre.

I suppose there are writers that would have been upset at a smaller crowd, but they have to be writers that have not done four hundred, or more people night after night.

I don't even have to say it, do I?

We'll do some place warm where we won't get snowed in.

Along with "meat" and "spill", I vote that LKH is henceforth banned from using "do".

The Ronnie's-fucksticks-in-triple-digits thing comes to mind.

EW, pass the brain soap please. O.O

And I second your vote. NO MORE DOING FOR HER.

When I read that in DM I was appalled. Not because Ronnie had hit the triple digits but because LKH was dragging yet another decent character through the mud to make Anita look better. It was like saying, "Oh if you think that Anita is a ho... check this out."

*hands you brain soap* Sorry that there's so little left.

Yeah, LKH made sure to hammer THAT into us (pun intended) more than once. It frankly pissed me off. I mean, really, why would they need to LIST THE NUMBER and shit????

Yup, meaning that she's a THREAT to Anita because Ronnie is a strong-willed female who isn't...yanno...ANITA. Or that's the way LKH acts.

Damn, she really wrote that? Didn't she say the same thing about RAZ? I have a hard time imagine that's even possible unless you try really, really, really hard or is addicted to one-night stands.. How easy is it to even find 100 persons you are resonable attracted to and want casual sex? I mean, my family tends to sleep around but none of them even had over 30.. Doesn't this woman ever think things through?

I did the math - it's possible of you do a different guy every week for nearly two years.

Given that Ronnie's been in a relationship - a serious relationship with Louie for around about the last year or so in book-time, it would mean that Ronnie would have had to have been either A) cheating on him mercilessly, in which case Anita would have gotten on her high horse about it, or B) whoring herself out without Anita's knowledge back when they were BFF and Ronnie was as happily single as Anita, though a little bit bitter about her previous marriage.

OMG why don't you guys love and worship me and follow me around anymore?? Where did my huge entourage go!!?

You don't want to come see me anymore? WELL FINE THEN I DONT NEED YOU ANYWAY, SCREW YOU ST. LOUIS, I'm going somewhere there people APPRECIATE me for the BEST SELLING AWESOME AUTHOR I AM!!!

I was in Borders yesterday and I saw they had a special display for the book. I didn't even slow down.

Or it maybe that this is the third event we've had in St. Louis this year.

Yeah, people can only take her in doses.

I don't even have to say it, do I?

Hahahaha! *wipes eyes* No you don't. And I agree with you. LKH shouldn't be allowed to use the word "do." Well unless she admits that her books have turned into a steaming pile of do do. Then she can use the word twice in a row. I won't be mad at her.

S'more flogging from this entry:

We did MICAH in February or March.

I'm shocked she didn't go into a tirade about tight and wet and spilling and...ew, I scare me.

Now I'm thinking that even though we haven't done the con in years that most of the people that wanted to stand in line, or see me, will have had their fill of me. We'll see.

...more EW over here.

Oh gods. I'm tempted to say she should just be banned from using active voice altogether, but somehow sentences like "we haven't done the con in years" would sound even sluttier in passive voice. T___T Even her diction is repugnant.

I've said it elsewhere tonight, but...

Fucking patronising, condescending, delusional, woman! In addition to vomiting in an envelope and sending it to her, I would now also like to stab her in the eye with a stiletto. Does this make me violent and irrational?

No, it's proof you've read her books and/or blog, little else.

As a friend of mine once said, "sometimes you just gotta take a fork and choke a bitch." :P It applies to how I feel about LKH.

I can see the opening now...

"Call me Anita. Some years ago -- never mind how long precisely -- having too much time on my hands and not enough men in my bed, and nothing particular to restrain my godly sex powers, I thought I would shag around a little and see some tight wet harpoon-penis action. It is a way I have of driving off all my female friends, and regulating my harem. Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically shooting vampire's heads off -- then, I account it high time to get laid as soon as I can."

I read that entry and was so terribly torn. A) yes, it's entirely possible that people have lives and don't want to go out to LKH launches every other week, but B) maybe it's because people are being polite and saying "We'll catch you next time." when they really mean, "We'll turn up to an event worth going to - like when you publish a decent book."

Both are valid arguments for the poor turnout, however, two hundred is nothing to be sneezed at. I'm used to launches that only have about fifty people. At best. Not even the allure of free booze and nibbly things got our numbers up.

FREE BOOZE AND NIBBLY THINGS?!? DUDE I'M SO THERE. ;)

*cough* Seriously, she's freaking obnoxious. Her "fame" has gone to her OMG DARKITY DARK OF DARKNESS head. :P

From: [identity profile] dwg.livejournal.com
We tend to have really great nibbly things - the free booze tends to be a bit of a lucky dip, some years it's good, other's it's not. Last major launch that I went to, I wound up taking home a bottle of Jacob's Creek [is people] chardonnay...that I never got to drink because my dad drank it all and tried to make it up to me by getting chateau du cardboard cask. Dammit, I had Jacob's Creek! I had people hitting on me in the street just because I was walking around the city while carrying a bottle of wine. @.@

This year, I have dibs on a free bottle of champagne. I hope I get one. *am a sucker for bubbly*

But yes, we have a lovely lady that does catering and we love her to bits. She does these mini quiches that are sublime.

I kinda like the small events - specially the underground/indie launches I've gone to. But then, I tend to know a bunch of the publishers/authors and hang out and eat nibbly things with them. ;P

writers that have not done four hundred, or more people night after night.

I swear, the woman sets herself up for mockery. We don't have to lift a finger. Fish in a barrel, people.

So many familiar faces... [........] Maybe because you're really not attracting that many new readers.

BULLSEYE. Absolutely.

She's so...oblivious. I constantly marvel that someone can be that out of touch with reality.

Jon and I are secure enough to let this one be a smaller signing.

O.O Wow. That's...I can't even articulate the amount of fucked-up-ness in that one sentence. Although, being me, I will try.

1. "Jon and I": What does Jon have to do with your writing career? (Besides apparently EVERYTHING.) Trust me, honey, no one's there to see Jon.

2. "Secure enough": Wow, overcompensating much?

3. "Let this be": Gee, how gracious of you.

Any time LKH mentions her self-esteem, it's in a petulant, childish way: "I AM secure! I AM!" She presents conflicting views of herself: either a totally self-confident kick-ass womyn with the uberperfect life and the Goddess's blessing; or a poor maligned little girl whose life has been nothing but hardship and death and feeling "ugly inside." There is no inbetween.

You know, when your fanbase is starting to psychoanalyze your personal life based on the content of your books, that's maybe a good sign that the therapy didn't work as well as you thought.

Paxil for Psychopaths. Or at least that's what friends of mine have said. I had a similar experience. It freaked me out and I stopped taking it and told my doctors " No more drugs". It's quite startling to feel absolutely nothing.

Although, would LKH still come across as insecure ?
