I was browsing Barnes and Nobel today and came across an author that sounded reasonably interesting.  After reading the back I looked to see what some of the reviews were like and came across this gem ...

"Liu's screenplay worthy dialogue, vivid action and gift for the punchy, unexpected metaphor rockets her tale high above the pack. Readers of early Laurell K Hamilton ... and catch a rising star." -- Publishers Weekly (Starred Review)

If that isn't a professional jab  that her writing (I use the term loosely) has gone south, I don't know what is. I ended up buying this book because of that review.

ETA: The book is Shadow Touch  by  Marjorie M Liu

I have a goal of a book a month for 2007. Already on book 3...but I need incentive to read stuff, haha. Rica recommended "The Enchanted Forest Chronicles" have you read them?

They aren't quite action/adventure, but they're great especially for teens (that's when I got them) because they have a distinct lack of emo. Starring a princess who has her own mind (and not in a temper tantrum throwing way) and some way cool dragons, and some evil wizards, and that witch with the coolest house next to Baba Yaga...

Anyway, it's been a while and I don't know how much to give away, but you should totally give them a try.

I loved "Dealing with Dragons" so, so, so much when I was 13. I still have a fond place for it in my heart and it's not a bad read, even after all these years.

I was laughing so hard when she was telling the knight that Kazul went to borrow a crepe-pan. I need to scan the cover and make a Cimorene icon. She reminds me a lot of Eshild from the Princess Manwha. ::points to icon::
