So this isn't really a blog flog. In fact I'd be grateful if someone flogged this blog. http://blog.laurellkhamilton.org/
This is a rant. In it she basically says that two of the greatest mystery writers of all time hated their main characters-Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot respectively-and made sure to kill off the characters.
She then basically says that Sir Arthur wrote Sherlock Holmes for money and Agatha Christie-well I'm not sure she knows why Agatha Christie wrote anything. But here's the important point. LKH LIKES her characters. The lesson she learned form Sir Arthur and Agatha Christie is that she doesn't want to take a year long cruise with people she finds boring (like Hercules Poirot was ever boring.) So instead she created a Mary Sue. Cause you know Anita is soooo much more fun to hang out with and have a cup of tea with.
I think this is my favorite part of the blog. "If Arthur Conan Doyle had felt that Sherlock Holmes was as real to him, as Merry is to me, he could not have killed him off once, just because he wanted to stop writing the stories. When it comes time to stop Merry's stories, years from now, I want to know she's alive and well, and living happily ever after. Like an old friend whose moved away, you still know they are out there, and a phone call will put you back in touch."
I want to throw up.
