http://blog.laurellkhamilton.org/2007/04/nothing-bad-from-me-today.html

So many thoughts for a blog today, but I'm going to try to stick to the thought that you guys keep telling me this blog is a vacation for you. A break from the bad stuff. So no bad stuff today.

You know, that would a nice sentiment if you weren't going to go on to talk about your latest travesty of the English language. As it is, it's laughable that your blog is a "break from the bad stuff" in any other form than Trainwreck Syndrome.

Eleven pages of FROST. So close to the end. Knock on wood, it looks like I may actually finish the book early. Like a month early. Of course, that's just the first draft, so it's not really finished. So, I guess, it's not finished early. Never mind.

"Oh, hey, I'm finishing the book early! Woohoo! Break time! ... Oh, shit. Now I have nothing to complain about on the blog! Never mind, I lied! I'll be waaaaaaay late on the book! Worship your poor, overworked queen of Gawthy Darkidy Darkness!"

The first draft is rougher than normal, so it will take longer than normal to make it finished. You either pay at the beginning of a book or at the end. I guess I decided to pay at the end on this one. Oh, well.

Translation: "Better add some more wank just in case I didn't make it clear already how bad I have it. Where's that worship, peons?!"

We're also terribly close to being done with the comic script. At least in first draft of the book and finished of the comic we'll be done at the same time. Then I'll get to go back through FROST and fill in those descriptions that I skipped. Names I couldn't quite remember. Cut the cast in a few scenes, so that the bit players aren't so numerous.

Oh, that's really believable. You mean how you cut all the bit players in AB? Or by "bit players", do you mean either anyone who's cock hasn't touched Merry in some shape or form, or anyone who moves the plot forward? Because I thought that was just par for the course with you, LKH.

If I could finish and do like a kamikaze rewrite. Read marathon session. Then it could all be done at the same time. It might be worth it to have the boards actually clear of work for a few days.

I don't read Merry Gentry, so I don't know if that would really make the series any better. But I'd love for her to do with with the last five or so books of AB, as long as we'd be guaranteed that there would be no sex. But then that wouldn't happen even if the world ended.

This blog? "No bad stuff"?

I call oxymoron. (Ho ho ho).

Psst, here's a tip, Laurell: if it's an utterly pointless sentence, don't type it! You could make my life just that little bit less darkitydark with rage at your inanity.

Come now, if it weren't for utterly pointless sentences, her novels would only be about twenty pages long.

Yes; twenty pages of pure punctuation.

Considering the last couple of novels, I'd say that twenty pages would be a generous estimation there.

Yeah, great Laurell. Wank on like you just don't care. No, wait you do care because I read ahead to your next blog and that just makes me want to smack you all the harder. Specially after reading that entry from Neil Gaiman's blog that [livejournal.com profile] pith linked to. I don't think I've ever been quite so nauseated by this woman until now.

I'm obviously biased in favour of Neil and vehemently against LKH, but... Neil said it better, with more grace, more tact, more humility. He spoke as a normal everyday person, not An Author using Sweeping Sentiments. He spoke about it on a human level, not with grand themes. It was about the people involved, not him and how he can save the world.

(And it doesn't hurt that he's gorgeous either, but that's just a plus, really)

I'm slowly being converted to the Cult of Saint Neil - the more I read about him, the more awesome he becomes. Hell, I kinda liked his stuff before I even picked up any of his works because it wasn't until my B5 Odyssey that I found out that he wrote an episode. An awesome episode. I squealed and pointed at the television and just said, "yet more proof of Neil Gaiman's awesome!"

I theorise that he's secretly a ninja.

Between LKH and some of the wank that's been going on with [livejournal.com profile] fangs_fur_fey (I've been reading the hook contest and...mon dieu I really want to stab some of the judges. I know I had the comm on my f-list a while back and then removed it because the gaffaw about how self-important some of the authors were just pissed me off), I'm kinda nauseated by being up to my gills in authorial wank. So I am a mere mortal after all, and actually have limits to how much wank I can digest in a night -- who woulda thought?

Coming across non-wank and some actual awesome has given me back the will to live write.

... yeah. I had to stop reading those entries. Some of them made really good points, other times? Notsomuch.

If you like him, I recommend Neverwhere and Mirrormask. Both the books and the films I found to be very enjoyable. We actually watched all of the Neverwhere series in one night because we enjoyed it so much.

I have MirrorMask and love it to death. I need Neverwhere...but I covet the Sandman comics like sin.

Yes! And, dammit, I have again forgotten which one it is, but I remember that it's an AWESOME ep, because I say that every time my boyfriend reminds me.

A pirate ninja. ;)

Did you see the April Fool's ('s? s'? ARGH!) joke about Neil being declared the patron saint of carpal tunnel sufferers or somesuch? So cute.

His "Nicholas Was..." is the best drabble EVER.

My God, the arrogance of that woman.

Clearly everything revolves around her and her little world, and she has to make these huge, pompus speeches that essentially say "Look at me, I'm so open-minded, I'm so in touch, I have so much empathy, worship me I am the center of the universe."

I thought she was just an amusing hack before. I could laugh at what she wrote but I had no personal opinion on her (except for the fact that she needs to take some time off and reassess a few things.) Now I think she has wandered into the realms of me actually properly disliking her. And it takes a lot for me to dislike someone, especially someone I don't know personally.

Laurell honey, if you don't want to make people feel bad by posting something, then for the love of all that is sacred, DON'T POST IT!

...am...am I the only one who actually couldn't quite make sense of that?

Seriously. On a couple of those sentences my brain tried to process the words in the order that they were presented, returned an angry "INVALID INPUT", then attempted to rearrange them into some semblance of coherence. I'm currently dealing with "FATAL ERROR - PLEASE REBOOT" while I try to uncross my eyes.

Wait, WHAT!? She forgets her characters names?! What is wrong with this woman? Doesn't she keep a list of some sort somewhere? Please tell me she at least keeps a list of her character's names somewhere so that the spellings don't change and...

She doesn't, does she?

I'm about to go read her most recent blog. I have the feeling I might need to borrow some brainbleach and a weapon.

I forget the names of my best friends all the time. Oh no wait, I don't. But then again I'm not the World's Greatest Author.

Ok, heck, I just read her most recent blog.

Anyone mind if I flog it to hell? It might be a bit rough since it'd be my first, but I just had my appendix out, and I'm ANGRY.

Hell no! If you don't flog it, I will, 'cause it's the most appalling I've ever seen her get when not directed at the "haters."
