I watched-now I just need to go and bleach my brain.
First of all may I say that MPE needs to invest in some good camera equipment? It was about as professional a film job as the ones my dad used to take of school concerts-using the home movie camera (pre video tape.) The sound quality was horrid too.
She introduced Jon and Charles. Why??? If I were crazy enough to go to one of her signings I wouldn't care about Jon and Charles. Side comment-I know Charles is supposed to be her bodyguard, but who IS he? A friend? Hired muscle? An fan? Inquiring minds want to know.
First question was about how she writes through a bad day. Answer: music. First she tries normal music (the feedback was so bad that I couldn't understand that part) then musicals (1776 for TH, Jekelyll and Hyde for "the last book (MK? DM?-not sure) then Christmas music. If all else fails she goes to a restaurant and writes long hand.
Next question was which character gives her the hardest time. Answer Richard... he won't talk to her. Richard is in therapy and trying to learn to communicate better in case anyone cares. Edward is sneaky and does things leaving LKH to try to figure out WTF he did. The rest appear to be more cooperative, but a later question revealed that Ronnie was in therapy too (and needs more of it) and that LKH hopes Ronnie and Louis will work things out, but are having problems because of Ronnie's jealousy relating to Anita's men.
A question was asked as to how LKH keeps track of all of the characters. Answer: they are friends and it's like a person trying to keep track of his/her friend's lives. You just do because you care about them.
She then sidetracked into a discussion of a book she wanted to write where Anita, Richard, Ronnie and Louis go to a B&B, but it won't work because Ronnie and Richard have too many issues.
There's parts 2,3 and 4 but the feedback on the mike was so bad I couldn't face another 30 minutes of video.
*applauds* Thank you. Your sacrifice has not been in vain.
If we haven't had it hammered into our heads already how much of a loony LKH is with the 'my characters a REAL' crap, well... this is the final stone in the House That LKH Built. I mean, come ON, putting characters in therapy?
The real answer on how LKH keeps track of her characters: She doesn't. Between assassinating Richard/Ronnie and forgetting characters' sexualities... yeeeah.
Her 'book she wanted to write' sounds strangely like a bad fanfiction. Hmm, I wonder...
What a load of crap (sorry for the crude language). Her friends? Doubt it. Yet again, she wants to feed us that crap (here I go again) about her characters being alive to her and how she thinks of them as real people and how she sometimes forgets they are just fictional and what great friends they are.
Yeah, right. She is trying to appear artist-y so that people will think Oh yes, LKH is such a talented writer! She is deeply connected to her characters! She forgets to separate her work from her real life just like all the great artists of the world!". I'd find that more plausible if: 1. she was actually a good writer; 2. she could remember her characters appearances; she claims they are 'her good friends', but she can't even remember the color of their eyes?; 3. her characters weren't completely one dimensional and carbon copies of one another. How can one be friends with fictional people who aren't even remotely interesting or complex?
I totally hate how she wants everyone to think she is soooo cool and talented. I mean, I know she thinks so. Comparing herself to JK Rowling was bad; after all, JKR was more success than LKH can ever hope to have... but Khaled Housseini? Give me a break! Not in your lifetime, Laurell! Grrrr.
I thought about it, and I realized I have no idea what color eyes my friends have, but I'm pretty good with their hair color-unless they get dyed, highlighted or the like.
What I do know about my friends is their admitted sexuality, who they are involved with (by name) their kids names, any illnesses they or their families are suffering from, job or financial problems, goals, aspirations, birthdays (mostly) etc. So I have to agree with you there... LKH knows nothing about her so called friends.

She must not have many friends or like them because of how often she fracks the crap on her characters. *gives them all cookies* You poor dears
