Hello, new member here. I recently got myself roped into LKH by reading The Harlequin. I wrote a book review about on my own journal and needless to say was curious for more. That book was probably one of the most explicit mainstream porn books I have ever read. LOL! I mean I was just so fasicinated that she would spend so much time on sex.

So I started to read the books from the very beginning and I have to say that while Anita is one MAJOR bitch with mental problems and issues, the books were still good to read.

So anyway, I have to ask you follower snarkers: When was the moment the series Jumping The Shark?

BTW, was I the only one who kinda got the feeling that the author was trying to set the scene for Anita sleeping with Edward's adopted son?

It's been awhile since I've read the books, especially the ones I didn't like, but I think it "jumped the shark" in... was it the Killing Dance that had that random chase/sex/I didn't even know what was going on at the time I read it scene? That was the first time I had the "what the hell, this is getting crappy!" feeling, and then I read Obsidian Butterfly and thought "oh, she just had an off book!"

yeah...

That was Blue Moon and I completely agree. The sex in that book between Anita and Richard was too forced. It's also the first time some "metaphysical shit" forces AB to have sex. Hmmm...I think the ardeeer, ardoor, ardeur..whatever...was a final solution. That way Raina didn't have to make multiple appearances per book.

I think the official shark-jumping was NiC, but I agree that that scene in Blue Moon was rife with WTFery.

You know, maybe I'm the only person in AB:VH fandom who didn't think Richard was all that wonderful from the get-go, but the whole thing of using this incredibly psycho "werewolf ritual" to force her into bed with him was just wretched. I felt like screaming "She picked Jean-Claude. Deal with it!"

Richard didn't initiate the ritual, Anita did. She kicked it off through her ridiculous, hypocritical jealousy and because she couldn't stand it if another woman got to be lupa.

Richard has never forced anything on Anita, unlike JC and Micah, which is part of the problem in their relationship. Anita enjoys being coerced sexually, while she insists on completely dominating the men outside the bedroom.

I didn't mean Richard used it to force her, I meant LKH used it as a weak plot device to get Anita into bed with Richard when it was completely out of character.

Although frankly, Richard does need to deal with Anita being with Jean-Claude. He was being annoying way before NiC.

Anita can't have sex with anyone for the first time without some sort of plot device. In that way, she's just like one of those so-called heroines from a bodice-ripper, in every other way she's like a male chauvinist pig.

I don't blame Richard one bit for his hatred of the two of them in BO. If it was a woman who was blackmailed, strung along for 7 months, betrayed at her most vulnerable moment after doing what the person she loved pushed her to do, then eternally, psychically chained to her blackmailer and betrayer, readers would find it unforgivable, not just expect her to play nice.

If LKH were writing Richard true to character, he wouldn't have agreed to keep Anita as lover or lupa after TKD. He would have found someone else to love. But no man is allowed to stop loving Anita no matter how crappily she treats them, and no other attractive single women are allowed in the Anitaverse for more than one book without being character-assassinated.
