Anita: "King" of the Monsters no more!

Remember the farce of the "King of the Monsters" tournament over at comicmonsters.com that LKH and Co. were pimping with a vengeance last year? (Or was it longer than that?) And how Anita won because the site was inundated with rabid fangirls (and fanboys)?

Curious as to why they've been mysteriously silent about it this year?

Maybe it's because Vampirella took her out in the second round.

Oh, Anita. Heap-big vampire hunter. What kind of slayer are you if you can't even beat a vampiress in a slinky swimsuit?

(I meant to post about the 2007 edition of the contest earlier, but forgot. Pity. It would've been nice to seen the final Anita vs. Vampirella numbers.)

I think it's going to be my standard internal retort whenever LKH goes on about how badass Anita is. "Yeah, but she was dethroned by a vampire in a anatomically-infeasible bikini!"

To be fair, all I know about Vampirella I've learned from reading the Previews catalogue :) Still, I'm very pleased she beat Anita. Seeing as Anita isn't even a monster, really—at least not in the good way.

IIRC, there was a brief mention in the LKH blog (possibly from Darla?) about this year's monster tourney.

But you have no idea how THRILLED (WITH CAPSLOCK!) I am that Vampirella took Anita out. :D

Now when I'm in a good mood, I'm going to say "I'm thrilled! With improved capslock!" Granted, no one in my family will get it, but that's half the fun, really.

I don't know if there was an Anti-Anita campaign (there seemed to be a fair bit of anti-Anita sentiment for what little of the boards I browsed), but at any rate, it shows that her win last year was purely on the strength of deluded fans. You don't go from champ to out-in-the-second without a reason.

so, since when is Anita Blake classified as a monster? I mean I know she's monstrous, but last time I checked, she wasn't intended to be portrayed that way by the author (I mean LKH has her swear up and down that everything she does is for love and protection, right?)
