Have you seen the cover Amazon has up for AB:VH book 16? This thing totally caught me by surprise as I was browsing recommendations over at Amazon. I had to click just to make sure it wasn't some other "Blood Noir" novel.

at Amazon.

I would totally buy this book if I'd never heard of LKH. It's sort of a Saw type cover, or J-Horror movie cover, not something I'm used to seeing in reference to any LKH novel. I definitely won't miss the weird angled shots of naked women and the occassional man. What do you think?

I think it's disgusting. Considering the likely content, the cover reminds me of a backalley abortion or violent gynecology.

Verrrrry violent gynecology. Maybe that's who the Bad Person is this time around. No abortions, though -- Anita's ovaries love her too much to produce anything that might cause a pregnancy.

Ugh, I was planning to watch "Eye 2" but after seeing this, I don't think I can.

Hmm... apparently Anita's into sewing now?

Sewing with BLOOD and ORGASMS. HOw would that even work?! Ugh, wrong question. Anita could make it work, and it'd make me cry.

I do NOT wish to know what she would be sewing, because it would be even grosser than rainmaking.

Yep. As I said, it would make me cry. And then I'd go find my pinking shears and CUT OUT MY BRAIN. I think it's a good thing I stopped reading after Incubus Dreams. Because otherwise I'd have ruined my scissors with brains by now.

Since I missed commenting on the previous cover-snark post: ye-e-e-ah. I totally suspect that this was the publisher's idea to try to give the impression that the series is moving back toward crime-solving rather than rampant sexcapades. I further predict that we're going to hear at least one blog-entry about how LKH didn't like it but the publisher insisted.

There better be goddamn scissors in this book. All I'm sayin'.

I'm betting part of Jason's OMGSODRAMATICANDSCARING past was that his father made him cut his hair. That's why he kept it long. But then he grew up and cut it to show his father doesn't have a hold on him any longer.

We will learn this over 343 pages where he has angsty sex with Anita and whatever other piece of food wanders by. It wouldn't take so long but Anita has to think and talk about how Richard would be this open with her (and the other men).

Oh, so it's going to be Micah, only with hair instead of a penis.

I cringe to think what will happen when we get to the other ones -- especially the vampires, since we've already been exposed to all their Deep and Horrible Traumas. SOMEBODY BETTER DIE AT THE END OF A PAIR OF SEWING SCIZZES!

Damn straight. If there isn't a scissor-stabbing it's a flagrant violation of consumer protection laws.

I mentioned something like this in the previous post, but I want Edward to get scissor hands. XD

I missed the flog before, and I'm sad cause I was there and though the cover looked cool too. I completely ignored the LKH name on it. Apparently my brain has had enough and is trying to protect me from the bad p0rn. Good to know there is some sort of defense mechanism working, even if I chose to disregard it. I still look at train wrecks too!

There will be some gory-hardcore-murder-mystery fans who are going to be spitting with rage when they get to the actual content, and swear to never again buy a book because of how its cover looks.

It has been brought up before, but... yeah. It looks like the cover to a British crime mystery or something. Maybe that is the British cover and Amazon US is only using it as a placeholder? Hard to say. It could be an attempt to try to legitimize her, though—or at least stop people from taking the dust jacket off before they read it on the train.

After all, if people can't see the dust jacket, how are they supposed to know it's an LKH book?

I emailed Darla and she said that this was the cover and that they (meaning Laurell, Jon, and herself or so I'm assuming) liked it.

*quizzical look*

Nhuh? So, they actually LIKED a totally nonsexual cover? Are we sure Jonboi didn't design it?

From: [identity profile] voguexcouture.livejournal.com
Hehe. No idea. She didn't give me details. Probably because I told her I didn't like it straight off and then asked her opinion.

I've probably insulted Laurell and Darla is now going to stop answering my emails any day here hehe.

It's not that I want a sexual cover, to me, that cover has SAW written all over it. *shrugs* Nothing in her books relates to it. Not anymore. I hate that I'm now having to give up on Laurell. I still would like to believe there is some hope over the rainbow, but yeah. *shrugs*

That must be it! The book is about a rogue hairpiece collector who runs amok through the man-toys. There's plenty of work there for the phantom wig maker!

He comes at night, dressed in nothing but a flowery shirt and carrying a hair dryer.

Oooh, I really like this cover! Unlike just about everyone else, apparently, I hadn't seen it yet - so thanx for sharing. :) It's very stark and gritty...cool in a slightly creepy kind of way. Which, of course, makes it just about the worst damned case of false advertising that I've ever seen. :P

It seems to be a bit of a trend over at Berkley...MJD's (MaryJanice Davidson) cover for UNDEAD AND UNWORTHY is totally, completely different from the other Undead books. As far from a frivolous cartoon-ey one as possible. So maybe it's a publisher thing, not at author thing...my two cents!

Huh, really? *That* is pretty surprising, considering that her books are so purposely tongue-in-cheek as it is. Maybe Barkley is getting branded as publishing frivolous chick-lit too much? ;)

But, unfortunately, it takes more than a badass cover to make a great book. I'm sure that the contents are just as craptastic as the rest of the LKH Circus has been. -_-

If it is anything like Saw that would be plenty of incentive for me to not buy the book.
