Title: "Happy Halloween"
LKH in boldface. Emphasis added is my own.
I'm wearing all the costume I'm putting on tonight; a black t-shirt that says, "I leave bite marks!" I may put on more make-up. Probably. Though every time I put on base and red lipstick on Halloween, no matter what I'm wearing, people always think I'm dressed as a vampire. It's the dark hair and pale skin, I guess, because the people saying it have no idea what I do for a living.
MORE make-up? Is that possible? Maybe people say she looks like a vampire because the make-up makes her look inhuman. And *gasp!* There are people who don't know what she does for a living? Again, how is this possible? She is her own pimp; I can't see how anyone in her county DOESN'T know what she does. Especially considering her "research".
And then, of course, there's the obligatory "oh, I'm so down with the Goddess" spiel, letting us all know, AGAIN, how cool she is because she's pagan/Wiccan/whatever, and we all know that all the cool13-yr-olds who read her books kids are Wiccan, right?*
Meh.
(* ETA: This should be obvious, but in case it's not: I have no problem with Wiccans in general or principle. I have a problem with wannabe Wiccans. Or wannabe Buddhists. Or wannabe Christians. Whatever the case may be. I did not say Wiccans, in and of themselves, were bad. I'm saying I that I don't buy LKH's Wiccanness.)

Date: 2005-10-31 08:41 pm (UTC)Ummm. If she's wearing a shirt that says 'I leave bite marks' isn't it implied that she is going as a vampire?? So wouldn't putting on the lipstick and foundation that makes her look MORE like a Vampire be a good thing? Wouldn't those assume she's going as a vampire be..... *gasp* correct?
Or is she just going as a masochist?

Date: 2005-11-01 12:33 pm (UTC)Well, at least she's not trying to pass off a Trogdor pendant as some symbol of an ancient God/dess.
And well, it's people like this that annoy me about Wiccans and Pagans. I know there's good ones out there, it's just that the morons tend to get in the way. Come to think of it, that's my same gripe with writers too.
Can I form my own Writerly religion now?

Date: 2005-11-01 06:50 pm (UTC)(Has personally been being a bad Wiccan, as loves costumes, etc, and doesn't belong to a coven etc., anyway, at the moment, so isn't doing what she should for Samhain...so can't throw that many stones, but hey...if you're going to pimp with it..at least do it right.)

Date: 2005-11-02 08:23 am (UTC)I'm surprised that LKH didn't dress up as her own protagonist. I can imagine it now: "And even though people didn't know who I was, they asked me if I was dressed up as Anita Blake." *eye roll*
And isn't LKH Christian anyway?

Date: 2005-11-03 09:42 pm (UTC)He, she claims to be a writer. That's much worse (in my book) than to claim to belong to a religion. Anyway, in my point of view, she does a lot of things because of the style or because she thinks, that they have style. How else on earth can anyone explain her behaviour towards privacy or "research"/ sex life?
I agree with the make-up tips and will add, that she needs a style or clothes guide who isn't a gamer or wannabe-goth.
