I went to the LKH blog today because I am that bored. So have a minflog.LKH in mighty bold and yours truly in plain.

While talking about her injury here, LKH said something kind of confusing again.

Apparently, I have to stop being all guy about my injuries and be more girl. By that, I mean I actually have to follow doctor’s advice and behave myself. Sigh.

Oh my God, woman. It's a sprained ankle. Stop being so retarded (not guy) about it and rest until you make something serious out of it. You're a "writer" so you don't have to stand up to do your job and I'm sure your family and friends would be willing to help for a few days. God, this is irritating. I had a sprained ankle a few months back and I didn't have the luxury to sit on it because I had to work as a cashier all day and I only could afford two days off work.

I apologize about this if it has been posted about and discussed already. I looked back a few posts and didn't see anything.

By the way, does anyone know if LKH knows of this site?

Her blatant guy = not listening, tough-it-out vs gal = behave, be docile is just irritating. It's such a sweeping generalization on her part.

Guys don't listen to the doctor about stuff? WTF? No really, WTF? I've known plenty of men who have injured themselves and been told to stay off of it/rest it/whatever needs to be done to get it better, and they DO it because they HATE having to sit around/lay around/not be able to do anything. What really needs to happen is Jon needs to actually grow a set and tell her to sit down and that like it or not, he's going to get things for her/do what needs to be done. Not stand around and be her fucking cheerleader and all "Oh, Laurell, you're so tough! You sprained your ankle but you can still get around and get your own tea! Oooo! If only I could be as tough as you." Hey, Jon...two words: testicular fortitude.

She's not macho. She's not "guy." She has horrendous penis envy and needs to just get over herself already. I'm more man than she is, and I'm a big old wuss. She's such a moron.

I hate Freud, but this woman proves his theory about penis envy. Maybe that's part of why she surrounds Merita with effeminate men -- so that they can seem 'manly' in comparison.

I can understand her wanting to prove that she's just as good as the long-held image of a man, but there comes a point where it just turns into posturing. She reached that point a very long time ago.

I'm almost tempted to say that I need to drop this community from my friends list, not because of the other members, or the discussions, but because every new word out of this woman's mouth makes my HEAD EXPLODE.

Seriously though: when did being a "strong, empowered woman" equal "behaving like a stereotypical male chauvinist"?

I started thinking I need to stop reading the blogflogs because every time I do, I just get so angry. The bookflogs and everything else are totally worth it though. But, she's just such a train wreck.

It's true, men are bigger complainers than women are. Also, their threshold for pain is lower.

I'm a doctor and in my experience, I would say that non-compliant patients are split about 50/50 in regards to gender. In other words, being a MORON doesn't depend on what gender you are. Stupidity is the greatest social equalizer, imo. We are united in our stupidity regardless of sex, race, social status etc.

Also, men tend to complain and need coddling in times on sickness much more than women do. They'll also go to the doctor more often for minor ailments. Women have a higher threshold for pain than men do, and also a higher mental endurance (men may not fall pray to depression as often, but when they do, they tend to go the deep end faster and stay there longer).

LKH's opinions apply to a social minority of parasites, of which she is a member (though she would never recognize it), again a minority which has little relevance as gender goes, and has everything to do with status and money (and stupidity, of course). You'd think she's never met any real people in her life.

good grief...is there anything this woman doesn't complain about? How many of us have gone to work sick as hell, bloody, broken and bruised?! It's not as if she has to stand up to write! Oh wait...that's right...she doesn't write, "Anita/Merry" do.

Sometimes I do think that at least someone on Team LKH lurks here, because a while ago on one of my Danse Macabre snarks, one of the lashers here made a brilliant comment, and then a week later, there was a blog related to that very thing. I wish I could remember what it was, i'll have to see if I can jog my memory.

But yeah, she's a moron about her silly little injury. And acting as though she's a big man for eschewing her doctor's advice. She readily accepts old-fashioned stereotypes and gender norms to the point of absurdity. Which is why, I'm convinced, she truly thinks Anita is a female character for the ages. *eyeroll*

Aside from what everbody else has said about the thing that only guys are ~*~hardcore~*~ enough not to listen to the doctor...

WHAT THE HELL, is she still going on about that &%/?=%§$ ankle? Just how much can one person complain about an injury like that? Yes, Laurell, this is truly an Epic Story about being a hero who can overcome the terrible fate of sprained ankle, please tell us more.
I mean, I don't like the "my situation is way worse than yours, so you have no right to be angry/hurt/frightened or feel pain" game at all, but all I wanna do is shake this woman and remind her that right now there are children who are used as soldiers and refugees who drag themselves four hundred kilometres with a broken leg because they have to escape etc., all the other examples of horrible things that happen to human beings around the world (but wait, no, you can't do that either, DO NOT DISTURB THE IVORY TOWER WITH ICKY REALITY).

Geez, this woman has truly lost perspective. I can imagine that that ankle still hurts like a bitch if she keeps walking on it, but if I was in her position, I would feel ashamed to post about it day after day after day. I mean, wouldn't a person with common sense realize just how damn whiny that makes one look?

EDIT: Reposted for spelling stupidity.

Nah, I suspect she likes her crotchetorial region far too much. Though I have to agree, all this gender roles crap she spouts, and how crap she things the female gender role is (even if her view on that is hopelessly outdated and innacurate), and how she's such a 'guy'... it really does make me wonder.

Date: 2008-07-11 09:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] windiain.livejournal.com
Oh, FFS. It's not a guy thing. In fact, in my experience, it can also be a great big GIRL thing. For example, my mother had wrist and shoulder surgery last week, and yet won't follow orders and rest up because she feels like she should be doing housework and things. In fact, a lot of the guys I know who get injured enough to be told to behave and rest up use it as a perfect excuse to sit around not doing anything (there's a reason that the term 'man flu' came around...). So where LKH is getting this weird shit from, I do not know. So, Laurell, FUCK OFF WITH THE GENDER STEREOTYPES!

Perhaps I'm too jaded but I think the sprained ankle is all about having a medical excuse for her publisher to be late for her deadline. When she finishes the book, I suspect the ankle drama will end as well.

I might understand if Laurell had back problems that made sitting total agony. Been there, and it's complete torture to not only be in constant pain but also unable to sit upright and do any writing for nearly a year.

But the pain of a sprain has the tendancy to to taper off after a few ibuprofins and a few days of inactivity, unless you keep agrivating it--unlike herniated discs which can cause constant radiating agony in your back and down your leg whether you move or not. That's been my template for what real pain is for the past 6 years. As long as I'm not in that kind of pain again, I can deal with anything. I'm not being "guy" about it. It's called perspective.

I bet she's the type that presses on her bruises so they're ALWAYS sore and she can bitch about the horrible, unbearable pain she's in.

Hey, Jon...two words: testicular fortitude.

Thank for that, Plum. ^_^ I needed the lolz. Laurell needs to die in a fire. I've had 6 surgeries and am probably looking at more, and I don't bitch as much as a woman with a sprained ankle. I mean, I do bitch some. It gets me presents. All the Godiva I can eat once I can keep it down. ^_^

I also agree that stupidity knows no gender. I just wound up in the hospital for over doing it, and I am a woman. Listening to the doc and sitting still is near impossible sometimes, but it should be easier for a writer who sits on her ass and pecks out bad porn all day. I do hope that LKH reads some of the posts here. She seems to need the perspective. Ah, but we're all jealuz haterz. (did I spell that right?)

I got the italics to work. ^_^ Thanks, Gehayi!
