Challenge 11 - AB TV Series Pitch
Sep. 8th, 2008 02:58 pmDisclaimer: Anita Blake and everything in her world belongs to LKH. Yay.
Title: The Midnight Stage
Synopsis: Set in LKH's AU world of vampires and werewolves, the Midnight Stage focuses around the life and challenges of the only all-vampire ballet troupe in the world, Danse Macabre. With lifetimes of experience and lessons straight from the masters, the troupe is the best of the best. But when everyone's been dancing to their own beat for the past couple hundred years, putting together the perfect show isn't as easy as it seems.
Characters:
Jackie: Turned into a vampire about 50 years ago, Jackie is the first person who envisioned the perfection of a performance by those already dead. After vampires became citizens, Jackie expanded upon her vision. Using her small amount of influence, she was able to purchase a theater and named it the Midnight Stage. With the permission of the local master vampire, she started recruitment and soon the first cast of Danse Macabre was formed. After gaining in popularity, the troupe began to tour around the country. She's very stong-willed and is always slightly stressed to the point of snapping due to the troubles she gets from the cast.
Merlin: Lead dancer. Extremely vain and self-confident about his talents, not helped by the fact that he is really the best. A couple hundred of years old, he takes any criticism about his dancing straight to the heart. He's always involved in some troupe drama or other, usually near the center of it. Despite his over-emotional state of mind, Merlin is entirely asexual.
Rob: A dancer. Loves to push Jackie's buttons and self-control as much as possible by causing drama with Merlin. It's not really known exactly how old he is; his age changes every time he says it. Even though he's impulsive and whimsical at first glance, Rob knows when to stop before things get out of hand... or does he?
Sarah Anne: A dancer. In love with Merlin. Her main passion is dancing, and not even death will change that for her. She hates the drama that Rob causes, and likes to defend Merlin whenever she gets the chance. However, she usually ends up causing more problems than she solves. Occasionally waxes poetic about never being able to see the sun. Is teased for it.
Chan: A human techie. Despite his differences, Chan fits in pretty well and listens a lot. So he knows more about the personal details of the troupe than anyone else. In fact, if you want to know anything about anything, Chan's probably the place to look. But you better have something to give to him in return.
Goodwin: The human PR guy. Works hand in hand as a foil with Jackie to make sure that Danse Macabre is open for questions 24/7. Calm and easy-going, he's normally taken advantage of by some of the troupe members. Jackie doesn't like that.
Jean-Claude: The master vampire of St. Louis. He's commissioned them for a performance. But based on the reputation of the St. Louis supernaturals, could he have something else in mind?
Season One: The first season focuses on the the troupe coming together as a whole as they travel across the country to perform. Other side characters will be introduced as the season progresses. Usually there's some kind of internal problem within the group that they have to work out before they're able to preform without trying to backstab each other while they're on the stage. Occasionally they'll meet with opposition in the town of the week. Maybe a group of extremists try to burn down the theater during the performance, or someone kidnaps Goodwin. Included somewhere is the origin story, where Jackie tells about how she bought the Midnight Stage and how everyone first met. Also in the first season are occasional mentions of St. Louis and Jean-Claude and how something bad always happens there. The troupe is split down the middle on whether or not they want to risk traveling there, and the overall tension is near breaking point come the season finale. Someone eventually leaves the troupe for good.
Changes: OMG. Um... I made Jackie the organizer of Danse Macabre? I made Danse Macabre the viewpoint? Though, I did keep Merlin as the lead dancer. That was his name in the book. I made him totally asexual though, and I don't think asexuals exist in the AB verse.
Future Seasons: Season two will probably deal with the troupe getting new members, recovering from the loss of the person who left, and everyone agreeing never to return to St. Louis again. Oh. And it will also deal with a rival vampire ballet group from Europe who are encroaching on Danse Macabre's territory. Yeah...
