Okay, so I am rather "new" still to the whole LKH batshit insanity and was curious....

Was she actually attacked and if so, when?

I ask this, because I had someone, whom I had thought as a reasonably intelligent person was vehemently defending her after I posted the drinking game to my LJ this morning.

She stated that it had been "numerous" times our darling Laurita had been attacked and that was why she needed a bodyguard. (To go anywhere?  No.  St. Louis isn't that full of deranged LKH fans....  I've lived in the region my entire life and most folks have never heard of her!  :-p)

I had never heard of this, and from what I understand, it was only once that a semi-creepy fan cornered her in a bathroom.

Does anyone have evidence one way or the other?  Because, I would like to go back to said person and say, "Okay, you're right...." or, "I'm sorry, but you are incorrect in your statement..."

I had thought they were semi-intelligent, but their absolute faith in LKH is just frightening...  :-p

My favorite think about Kennyon is that she's obviously having fun. She's a goth, she loves goth stuff, but she hasn't become a cliche. I didn't read the two or three books before Acheron because I think they're getting too formulaic and I felt bad because I think she's a really cool author. Unlike LKH where I feel bad for having read the books and am happy every time I see Blood Noir because I won't read it.

Kennyon blogs as her characters sometimes. I love that. It's a little weird, but she has fun with it and it works. It's nowhere near as weird as having your characters get in arguments in your head. Kennyon must be surrounded by the right kind of people. Poor LKH really isn't.

Not only that, but Kenyon comes from a similar background as LKH (below the poverty line, child to raise and a family) and you won't catch her whining about how haaaard writing is. She recently posted an interview she did about how she broke into the field, and it's excellent. She seems honestly thrilled by her success, and flattered that people enjoy her books, which is just so freaking refreshing after LKH.

It's part of the reason I still read her books, and still have fun reading her books, whereas the last LKH I read was ID. I don't weep on the inside at the thought of giving her my money. (And in spite of the somewhat formulaic nature of some of her books, and the sex that is pretty much built in to the romance genre, there's still a plot -- and the overarching plot that runs through all of the books in intriguing enough that I keep on wanting to know what comes next.)

Wait... she has people to clear the bathroom for her at cons? That's disgusting.

AFAIK, she just wants to be more important than she is, and she wants to live a romantic life of constant danger, just like Laurita. Google doesn't seem to have anything on it.

Remember that absurd blog about going incognito at the Renaissance Faire, because *gasp of horror* once somebody there told her Anita was a SLUT, which is why she isn't comfy going without Charles' big manly self?

But despite being approximately the national average height, Laurita is so FREAKISHLY PETITE!

God forbid she ever goes on the Metrobus in Illinois. There's some weird people that ride those buses (or at least whenever I'm on it!) and the smell. At least they're nice, for the most part!

I can't find a single remark on Google that ties LKH to a physical attack. There are all sorts of mentions of vampire, lycanthropic and zombie attacks in her books; there are many mentions of her "Dear Negative Readers" post where she protested criticism as "attacks by fans."

But there is no mention of anyone physically attacking her in public. There is no mention of anyone verbally abusing her in public. I can find no newspaper article, no interview, no con report that cites an attack. Perhaps such an event has happened, but it seems to be well-buried.

Also if LKH had been stalked 99.9% of police, PI's or other security experts will tell you NOT to publicly state that, or confront the stalker in any shape or form, you should document the evidence keep a log of the events to hand over to the cops and let them handle it.

Note- LOTS of stars bigger than LKH have been stalked and you dont hear about it until after the guy has been caught and in jail, the fact she's whining about "attacks" that nobody...even the cops...knows about. pretty much shows that they are most likely false.

If she has been the victim of 'multiple attacks' she needs to call the cops, file reports, get the assholes in jail before somebody (LIKE HER DAUGHTER) gets hurt, a bodyguard won't help her from a crazed loon with true intent to hurt her.

Case in point that she doesn't need a serious bodyguard? Sounds like it to me.

I'd say the "bodyguard/s" thing was a promotional show of some sort, but LKH is so hard up to BE her avatar, she's fooled herself into thinking they're real.

My guess is Charles (and pretty much everybody else) knows that nobody cares who LKH is, and the likelyhood of her EVER having a real problem is pretty much next to nil. So, why should he care? He gets into cons for free for a bogus job and gets paid for it (maybe).

But, gotta support the princess in her ivory tower and all.

The guards were in kilts when I went to an LKH panel at DragonCon this year. It was really weird actually, because they were also sitting 20 feet away from her on the other side of the room and during one random moment while she was slagging off her ex husband, I idly wondered how many times I could bitch slap her before the guard ran over.

*imagines being tackleglomped by a pack of short Frank'n'furters, Laurita urging them on from a safe shooting distance, gun in one hand, whip in the other*

*is now cackling insanely*

I think that we all suffer from some mild paranoia. The difference between us and LKH is that we have the the mediating force of normal people to steady us while she is only surround by people who feed into her extremes. Here is a very real situation I'm sure many of us have found ourselves to illustrate this point.

It's late and dark and for some reason you are walking the 4 blocks back to your apartment/car/hotel/bus stop/subway station/etc. You hear a noise and notice that there is someone about a half a block behind you, walking in the same direction and talking softly. You start walking faster, your mind replaying some sort of local new report about some sort of local violence. Your breathing speeds up and maybe you even reach into your pocket and clutch your keys like a weapon. You all but dash the last few steps to the perceived safety of your destination, shaking in relief. Later as you recount this tale of certain death averted to a friend/roommate/boyfriend/girlfriend, they respond:

A.) 'OMFG!!11!! I bet they were (insert name of area's human Bogey Man). You could have been killed!!' Your fear grows and from that day on you become more and more afraid of the world, spurned on by your friend/roommate/boyfriend/girlfriend's certain proclamation that every pigeon looking at you the wrong way or fart issued in your general direction is a omen of certain death in disguise.

B.) They manage to drag their focus away from their book/magazine/TV show/cooking/dog bathing/etc for a moment and say 'it was probably nothing. I bet it was a drunk guy leaving (insert name of local watering hole) talking to himself or someone on their phone. Quit being such a spaz.' We sleep secure in the kind of concern those people have for us that transcends our innate spaz-iness.

We all are normal because we have less of the former and more of the later in our lives. LKH does not.

It is a bit mind boggling to observe "professional" bodyguards acting in such a juvenile manner. The leaf blower and kilt scenario might be accepted con behavior for participants, but in my mind at least, Charles and whoever else has been put on "protect Laurell" duty should be onlookers who aren't getting their dangling bits blow dried. After all, she is paying them, right?

I wonder if she's ever considered hiring mall cops? She might be safer in the long run.
