The Annotated Anita Blake: The Laughing Corpse: Necromancer #5

Chris over at The Invincible Super Blog has the latest issue of the Anita Blake comics up and thoroughly flogged! Find it here.

But the ISB Research Department isn’t here to nitpick! We’re here to… well, I guess we are here to nitpick, but we assure you that it is for the highly scholarly purpose of exploring the many “fascinating” mysteries of the series!

I love the use of quotation marks. "Fascinating" indeed ;)

i thought so too, but i think LKH herself forgets that like halfway through the 3rd book.

Right or wrong I always got the impression that Dolph was tall and Teutonic looking. That might be a result of Dolph Lundgren. I know that in RPIT there was one very polite black officer (Anita always comments on his manners), I figured he was LKH's token black guy. Just like Jamal, the "Fame" dropout, was the token black guy for the weres and we have some cockamamie excuse why blacks can't be vampires.

From what I remember - and admittedly, it's been a while - the only black member of RIP-whatever was Perry, the aforementioned polite guy with a baby. Dolph was big, built like a linebacker, and I believe referenced as being of Irish descent.

Which still doesn't fit the picture in the comic at all, but it's kinda closer.

These always cheer me up.

I cannot stop staring at the hair and the mouths, especially on the women -- the way the lighting and shading on the lips is drawn is absurdly distracting. Anita has a mouth that would make Angelina Jolie thin-lipped, but in a weird way.

Does anyone know if LKH approves or encourages certain aspects of the artwork?

LKH had to approve of all the character designs if that's what you're asking.

Yes, that's what I meant. Thanks.

You know what's funny. According to a friend of mine who works in a comic book shop, the AB comics are quite popular with Black women. This whole thing is just the opposite of how to do an adventure-occult comic because you have to keep the pace going and characterization and builing is wonderful, but if you're going to just blah, blah, blah for seven pages (especally with a 20 or so page comic.) As I said before, LKH is just too inlove with the character to keep the pace going.

If I wasn't horrified by the comic version enough, my comic nerd sensibilities are furious that such drivel, split into mini parts for no reason and ending so stupidly, gets printed when great, unappreciated comics get cancelled:(

Granted LKH was famous to begin with so that helps.

NO KIDDING. Here I sit, sad, because Captain Britain and MI: 13 were cancelled, yet this crap is still being published.

So are they going to have ANOTHER 5 issue mini for Book 2?

GP was only 12 issues...this is already at 10...how much of the book is left?

I have feeling either it'll take another two or three mini-series or Marvel will put their foot down and demand she either speed up\finish the story or it ends early.

Only if the sales bottom out will they pull the plug.

As long as it sells they will print it (unfortunately)

As I said before, it seems to be popular with Black women.
