I've actually been in line with perfect X-mas gift for Anita. Realized that she's not real & I couldn't give it to her. :)

I've also almost bought gifts for other characters, but you can't give your imaginary friends gifts. No way to mail them.

Aww, Hamilton. Why are you still saying these things? You could be perfectly sane and of sound mind, but this sort of stuff makes me picture you wandering around aimlessly, unsure of what's going on or who you are. It makes me want to pat you on the head and give you a chew toy. I know that you like people to think of you as being ~connected~ to your characters, but this is not the way to go about doing so. Just stop :(

I sometimes wonder if she subconsciously says things about how the characters are her fraaaands because she wants people to stop being mean to them. Anita and Team Sex can't defend themselves because they're not real. While we look at this like, "Well, they're not real, so I can call them all stupid and not hurt their feelings." Hamilton might have begin to think, "If I make them real, people will be nice to them!" It's probably just that Anita is such (no, fingers not 'suck;' nice one, though) an extension of Hamilton that she can't bear to see people being mean to her, but who knows.

I can imagine that if you were totally embroiled in worldbuilding you *would* see things in a shop and go "heh, that would be the ideal present for my character. I wonder if I can work this detail into my story?" But I also think LKH's heroines are essentially her with Magickal Powers and endless sexual appeal to all men everywhere, so when she sees things Anita would like she's actually seeing things she would like.

It was probably a red polo shirt or a black leather miniskirt that barely covered the tops of her lace-topped holdup stockings or a "blazer". Those clothes always make me think of AB and I'm not even a fan.

I think LKH thinks sharing these details is cute and humanising. But it gets a bit lame.

It's that, or perhaps if she explains that they're not just characters, but her FRIENDS, this implies a much more intimate relationship than just creator/creation and allows her to be wounded/leap to their defense when people criticise. It may also explain the whole, "please don't tell me about the RPG, I don't want to know about my imaginary friends having sex." thing a bit back.

I don't know why she wouldn't just buy these things for herself. I know there's plenty of things that I know various characters would be all over, but I'd keep because the stuff I covet tends to be awesome and I'd love it anyway. Sometimes they're ridiculously expensive, but that's where the wonders of fiction can happen because *gasp* you can write about characters getting the stuff that you, yourself, cannot have.

I totally do that with my own characters; it's a fun imaginary game to play ("If I could get the perfect Christmas gift for my character, it would be . . . um, probably bail money."). But there's something very affected and overly cutesy about cheerfully talking about waiting in a real-life line to spend real-life money on a person who doesn't exist. Either affected, or downright psychotic.

Yes, this. I've engaged numerous times in the game, "I bet X character would like this [song, book, whatever]." But I don't pick up said item, wait in line to purchase it, and then remember that said character is fictional. That's usually a sign that the line between reality and fiction is just a little bit too blurred.

I go with her being affected and cutesy. She wants to show how close her characters are to her, how much of an arteeste she is, but she goes a bit overboard. It's just like a few weeks ago when she was trying to show how close she and Jon still are, how much in love. Then she made a big deal of how she had to wake up her husband when she left the bed in the middle of the night to go write (well at 4 AM). Just so he wasn't distraught if he woke up and she wasn't there. She didn't get that it sounds a lot ruder to wake someone out of a sound sleep to tell him, "I'm going to the other room to write."

She does/says things like this so often I have to wonder if she's actually just really, really enamoured of the idea of her characters being so real to her she wants to buy them presents. Like, it happened once, and then she thought "Wow, that is so cool, it shows how absorbed I am in my work" and so she keeps bringing it up because the novelty hasn't worn off.

Kinda like the really annoying person who tells you over and over again about that one really cool thing they did back in high school? I think LKH is that person!

That's what I was thinking... every year we hear this song and dance right around this time.

Oh no! We'd a have a "novel-lite" called "A Very Merry Solstice" or "The Christmas Corpse," and she'd destroy my enjoyment of the holiday.

Yeah I guess "A very Merry G*ngbang* would have been a tad too obvious or "I saw Anita kissing Santa Claus...oh noes he's part of her harem now!!" rofl on your choice of titles.

I just have this horrible thought that the perfect gift for Anita is one of those dildos modeled after animal penises for zoophiles who aren't ready to do it with actual animals yet.

Hi, all:

Maybe she needs to go to SECOND LIFE and set up her MEverse there. That way, she COULD give her imaginary friends all the presents that she wanted to, and they'd actually THANK her for them.
