Superblog: Anita Blake: Nercomancer #3
Jan. 18th, 2010 03:03 pmChris has got a new sporking of the comic out. For such a "badass", Anita sure gets beat-up and kidnapped a lot as well as doing nothing when she could've. It's funny but frustrating to see a story that willingly drags it's feet so the creator can prove how witty her self-insert is and is so in love with the sight of her word balloons. For fun, here is a silly list of characters who'd be better protagonists than this version of Anita...
-Penelope Pitstop: Sure she can be pretty helpless at times and needs her friends to rescue her, but when the chips are down, she can be very clever in getting out of trouble. If she fought that zombie and ran out of bullets (like Anita did), she'd find a lighter a friend left behind at her house, grab a can of hairspray and use the two items as a make-shift blowtorch.
-Captain N version of Simon Belmont: Sure he's a primping, egotistical metro-sexual, but even he tries to do things on his own terms and has a neat backpack full of tricks. At least you'd get a decent battle from him.
-Bayonetta (as Chris mentioned): She's ultra cheesecake, but when people call her a badass they can back it up. This JC wouldn't have a prayer against her.

Date: 2010-01-20 02:42 pm (UTC)I mean, how many times have people said things like "you would, you really would wouldn't you?!" and "not many people know that" and the like. It's a lot.
But then, it's a lot easier to just have other characters TELL the readers how awesome your self-insert is, rather than showing them though actions or plot or whatever.
