[identity profile] h0rsewithnoname.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] lkh_lashouts
Long time lurker, first time poster.

I had an amazing idea whilst showering yesterday, thinking about all of the questions that LKH has raised with her (*ahem*) glaringly inconsistent "art."

In this post, I propose that we collect previously asked questions and pile them into a compilation. The questions about her true motivations, her plot lines and of course the friends in her head. (I wonder if Anita or Merry will write us back instead?) Maybe we should also include the plot re-writes and twists that have been ingeniously proposed by our amazing members.

Also, please think of any other questions that you want to ask. Anything, as long as it's well written, i.e. not childish or overly sarcastic, etc; we need credibility to up our chances of getting an answer. If you have a burning question, now is the time.

This list will eventually, via whomever has the best ideas for contacting her, be sent to her. Will she read it? Maybe. Hopefully. I was hoping to compose a short letter begging her to explain herself clearly, and in detail. Maybe outline how we are a huge group of her fanbase? Whatever the case, I was thinking of sending it through multiple mediums, so the chances of her reading/responding is upped (as you know she loves procrastination letting her muse take a break, this should be the perfect excuse.)

If you don't think this is a good idea, sorry, just let me know and we'll change the topic to "how are you doing today?"

It's an excellent idea. Who knows? It might even turn into a blog rant post by her?

LKH has ranted before about her delusions and how we're all evil people if we don't see how hard she struggles to bring us her stories.

I would send it to her via USPS - something signature required, or return receipt, so you know she'll get it. (And, scarily enough, for all her ranting about how she's got stalkers and she was scared to go out in public w/o Chuck, she's still listed in the yellow pages - home ph #, addy & even a map on where she lives!)

She'll never go for it. I'll just leave it there before I start ranting; maybe I'll come back after I have some coffee.

I don't think she'd respond. She ignores a large portion of even the troos when they try to contact her on Twitter, as well as anyone who has a genuine question no matter how politely worded it is.

There's part of me that would love to sit down and talk to her face to face about all the issues that I (and others) have with her writing and have a chance to explain that no, it's not because we're narrow-minded prudes that find her work too challenging to our tiny ideals. It'll never happen and that's probably for the best, but I'm pretty sure that it's the only way that she would actually listen to any concerns that may arise over her work.

I'm doing fine, thanks for asking.

I've never particularly understood the impulse to tell a creator that they're Doing It Wrong when the feedback wasn't even asked for in the first place. Venting our frustrations (or laughing out loud) in a space like this, fine, sure. But unless you're paying her to write, you're not in a position to tell her what she should or shouldn't be doing.

But, but, we buy books! That means we pay her, right? Nope. The publisher pays her to write. By the time we buy the book, she's already been paid and while she might get a portion of what we pay if the advance earns out, it's still money paid to her from the publisher. If we find the work not to our liking, we have the option of not buying it (which is what quite a few of us have done by now.) There are still plenty of people who have no problem with what she's writing and will happily buy it the moment it comes out. Just because we don't hear from those people in this little echo chamber of snark doesn't mean they don't exist and have cash to spend.

One might argue that the readers still pay her bills, since if they weren't buying the books, her publishers would stop paying her. You don't get to have a paying writing career without readers, so having a little respect for them wouldn't kill her.

Unless you ask her, I mean.

She still has readers. Why would we be griping about 'troos' here if she didn't?

Now, if it were posed as questions from a legitimate interviewer, I wonder if she'd answer them, or go have a screaming, ranting, on-line breakdown because the interviewer doesn't kiss her ass.

I like the idea of getting all the questions in one place, as I like organizing anything that can be organized. However, she's not really much of a mystery. She thinks she's intriguing and unique and hard to figure out, but there isn't much to question or be confused by.

It really just boils down to her being a selfish, clueless, unskilled writer who got very lucky in starting the trend of bitchy, first person protagonist mary-sues with a flock of paranormal, interchangeable cardboard cut-outs falling at their feet. Whatever we might ask could probably be answered with the catch-all, "because she has no idea that what she's doing as a writer is ridiculous."
