[i think it's ok to talk about the Merry Gentry books?]

much as it pains me to admit it, i still like the Merry books. possibly because impossible, implausible, queen-bee-type sex was part of the format from the beginning, so there was never an abrupt shift to "OMG what the HELL is that?!"[though i still skim the sex scenes - she just cannot write sex scenes that are, well, sexy. at least, not consistently. there'll be a little sexy, and then someone talks. or worse] possibly because i prefer fae to vampires any day of the week. possibly because they get more editing than the Anita books do. possibly because, while Merry doesn't have the SAME moral code that Anita did, she has one - and hasn't actually broken it, let alone demanded cookies FOR breaking it.


and i'm afraid to go to the LKH site. somehow, no matter what i post [even just "hey, does anyone know if there are going to BE more Merry books? and if so, does anyone have any idea as to when?] i'm attacked. and, you know, it'd be ok if i were showing up and being hostile. but i don't do that, i don't like trolling - i just really want to know if/when there will be another Merry Gentry book. i don't even want spoilers.

so, after way too much explanation, i ask here - does anyone know?

Sorry, I haven't been tracking the series in a while.

But I will agree that they were slightly better than the later Anita stuff, probably because there hasn't been a weird betrayal of character. Merry is pretty much what she always was and hasn't done a 180 about face.

yeah, that's the gist. also, strangely, LKH's portrayal of Fae is closer to the original idea/stories of Fae that a lot of various other series'. not saying it's the best or closest or anything, but it's closer to true than one normally seems [which is especially odd, considering that it *IS* LKH...]

The next Merry book is supposed to be out in December 2012. But who knows if it will be. She's been struggling writing this Anita book which is due out in June 2012. When she gets the first and only draft in for that in January or maybe even February (the last two Anita books were submitted in February for a June publication date) then she'll start writing her Merry book. And she generally has a harder time writing Merry than writing Anita. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up getting the Merry book out late.

She does have a new contract with Penguin for both Anita and Merry. It's supposed to be a three book contract, but I don't think it's ever been made clear whether that meant 3 of each series or 3 in total.

My initial hope for Merry's books was that they'd provide LKH with an outlet for plot porn and she'd go back to writing Anita as I understood Anita. Of course, that didn't happen. I tried to stick with Merry's books but I lost interest once it turned into a race to get her pregnant. I would flip through them occasionally just for the lulz, though. My favorite was the book that started out with everybody inside the knowe and them needing to leave for a meeting or something. Except it was like five chapters of pure sex before they actually went anywhere.

None of this answers your question! But I wanted to say anyway. I'm sort of interested to see what happens, especially since Merry seems to be on track to become an avatar of the Goddess or something.

hey, it's cool :) i skim the sex, which makes the short books even shorter - but the rest of the plot tends to actually be pretty decent. and she treats the fae more like the fae USED to considered, if that makes sense.

and yeah - i'm wondering about the Merry-As-Avatar, too :)
