I am not uber Anita Blake reader girl, but I was playing around on some fan sites and came across a bit of info that said if a vampire's human Servant dies, then the vamp dies? Wasn't Julianna Asher's Servant? Is this a mistake on the fansite or one of Laurell's oops moments?

I just thought it sounded like a cool idea, but it doesn't sound as though she's not using it much. Maybe a side-effect of her new tenent to never ever kill a character? Even if it would be kinda cool and at least something new to angst about?

Date: 2006-04-14 04:52 pm (UTC)Unfortunately Asher's angst reminds me of the icky pattern running in AB at the moment:
guy: (angst/whine)
Anita: (comfort/listen/understand/minimalizes her bitching)
guy: (is smitten)
love: (is there)
It's like a very bad fanfic Mary Sue. Speaking of which... since I only just stumbled into the existence of lkh fanfic and the whole julianna/asher/j-c triangle is amusing me at the moment... is there a place to read your write-up? I have a strange and unhealthy fascination with Mary Sues.
The idea of Julianna Reincarnata Sues doesn't surprise me. The fact that a few fanfic authors have managed to turn Anita into more of a Sue than she is in the books... that floored me.

Date: 2006-04-14 09:55 am (UTC)His presence just seems totally unnecessary. ESPECIALLY since she's got all these other
neglectedmen waiting for her in the background.no subject

Date: 2006-04-14 05:03 pm (UTC)And yes, I'd actually PAY to have any book that would have the possibility of Richard dying, too.

Date: 2006-04-14 01:49 pm (UTC)According to the books, the vampire may be strong enough to survive the servant's death - ergo, Asher was powerful/strong enough to survive the loss of Julianna.
Conversely, it was set up in Blue Moon that human servants that survive their master's death tend to be crazy-go-nuts and often have to get put down. If the marks bind the vampire and servant as closely as they ought to be (look at Circus of the Damned for when Anita's got all four marks from Alejandro), then it kinda makes sense that when that part of you dies, you're gonna go nuts trying to figure out what part is really YOU, what's THEM, and how to just make it through each day.
About the only reason that I can think that Anita hasn't gone crazy-go-nuts is because she was also bound to Jean-Claude when Alejandro started laying on the whammies, and y'know, then she killed Al, the world went splody and the marks were neutralised.
