I am not uber Anita Blake reader girl, but I was playing around on some fan sites and came across a bit of info that said if a vampire's human Servant dies, then the vamp dies? Wasn't Julianna Asher's Servant? Is this a mistake on the fansite or one of Laurell's oops moments?

IIRC, she says there's a risk of the vampire dying, or the vampire is left vulnerable just after. I don't think it's ever put as a given, just as there's a chance that it will happen.

it's a possiblity that they may die, or go crazy. same thing works for the human servant... it all depends on their bond and how long, blah, blah.

Marguerite (sp?) didn't die when Yasmine did, for instance... she just went apeshit batty and started clawing her eyes out. but then that girl was never stable to begin with.

Also, Anita didn't die (at least, she didn't stay dead) when she killed Alejandro

Anita's like a postnuclear cockroach, though... nothing kills her dead... LKH's divine will at work.

It is rather interesting that Asher didn't die. Considering he was being tortured at the same time that Julianna died. And, unlike Anita and Alejandro, Asher and Julianna had been master/human servant for a lot longer.

As other people said, its more it'll weaken and possibly kill the vampire rather than definetly do so. Definetly something that LKH hasn't delved too deeply into.

I actually did a long Mary Sue write-up on Juliana Reincarnata characters.

Were LKH ever to play her characters smart, the havoc she could wreak with Asher. Frankly, I think he's come across as far stronger than his angst might indicate.

I always get antsy about this concept when it comes to the Anita/JC/Richard triumvIrate. Because really, I just *don't* get how Richard's death would affect the other two that badly. He's a dick. He's constantly cutting off contact with the other two. They don't ACT like a triumvirate.
Possibly I'm biased 'cause I really want Richard to die without taking JC down with him.

IAWTC.

His presence just seems totally unnecessary. ESPECIALLY since she's got all these other neglected men waiting for her in the background.

...you'd think she'd ENJOY killing Richard, as a way to kill her ex in effigy. Or something.

And yes, I'd actually PAY to have any book that would have the possibility of Richard dying, too.

Not only that, I'd pre-order the book!

Besides, they don't have the fourth mark yet, so the risk of death should be lower anyways, right?

And...agreed, Richard must die.

Not always.

According to the books, the vampire may be strong enough to survive the servant's death - ergo, Asher was powerful/strong enough to survive the loss of Julianna.

Conversely, it was set up in Blue Moon that human servants that survive their master's death tend to be crazy-go-nuts and often have to get put down. If the marks bind the vampire and servant as closely as they ought to be (look at Circus of the Damned for when Anita's got all four marks from Alejandro), then it kinda makes sense that when that part of you dies, you're gonna go nuts trying to figure out what part is really YOU, what's THEM, and how to just make it through each day.

About the only reason that I can think that Anita hasn't gone crazy-go-nuts is because she was also bound to Jean-Claude when Alejandro started laying on the whammies, and y'know, then she killed Al, the world went splody and the marks were neutralised.

Probably. And she probably pulled the usual crap, calling whoever told her that they are mean spirited and cruel and stuff. That is her standard reaction to any critisizm, even the constructive kind. That or she gets Jon to bitch at the fans. e.e
