Jon & I just finished our second tactical shooting class at Asymmetric Solutions. We are beyond exhausted, but it was amazing training. Learning so much for both real life situations & my fictional ones. Hands on research is always different than I think it will be & it changes what I write in ways I never imagine until I'm there, doing it. No amount of books, or articles can teach me what I learn from using a weapon for real, or as real as I can get as a civilian. Now, for showers & early bed. My hat's off to all our men and women in the Armed Forces who do this every day & in heat that makes Missouri seem cool & pleasant. You guys are bad ass, I just write this stuff.

I am a little concerned about how she sees the application of tactical shooting classes to her real life situations.

Zombie apocalypse?Although I recently watched mythbusters and the axe is mightier than the projectile weapon when faced with ravening hoards of the risen dead.

But yeah, my brows shot to my hairline at that little gem of info.

Not gonna lie, that kinda concerns me too.

On the upside, she kinda (probably unintentionally) admitted that her main characters are self-inserts.

Also, dear lord, with the commas again. Woman, you're a professionally published author. You should know how basic punctuation works.

Gosh, is Laurell interested in guns? I am so glad she let us in on this at last. Now if only she'd tell us something about her husband... I'm pretty sure she has one! What could his name be...

She hasn't specified that this Jon is her husband, Jon. I'm concerned that she's hanging out with strangers.

What if she just yelled "JON!" and some other guy with long hair answered so she brought him home instead. This poor guy is stuck at her house all NO I HAVE A CAT THAT NEEDS ME AND IT'S JOHN WITH AN H, LADY while her husband Jon is stuck at the gun range all sad because he got left behind.

Meanwhile John With An H is adapting to his new life as an ambiguously attractive, sexuality-threatening IT wiz.

Jon, her husband, gets a job at a nearby comics store. He tears up when he's asked to box up the leftover ABVH ones to make room for new stock.

LKH never notices the switch.

This thread made my otherwise crappy day.

Someone needs to write and illustrate The New Adventures of New Jon and Old Jon.

Soldiers aren't just shooting at targets in hot conditions. "Exactly what I do, plus heat!" is not what soldiers go through, Laurell! FFS!

God, if all they were doing is shooting at targets, I'd hardly call that "tactical". I'd think that would involve learning things like how to properly check and clear a building. And probably end the course with a giant game of paintball.

Even if they did the stuff you describe, it still wasn't anything like what real soldiers go through even in training, let alone in a situation like in Afghanistan.

Did the "OH BTW THNX ARMY" bit feel...tacked on to anyone else? Like I see the relationship with guns/firearms but I idk, it just reads like she shoehorned it in for what I can only assume is for patriot points with fans or to make it seem like there was some POINT to this post besides I DO RESEARCH (said research would be more impressive if it actually showed in her work, I might add)

If she did research, she'd be listening to actual soldiers about their experiences and reading books on what war does to people and such. But no, she thinks a form of LARPing is almost the same thing as war.

Yes to the 'tacked on' bit.

My concern though, is that she will use the research, but it'll end up a huge data dump of mostly unnecessary preparation details before Anita and Co. head into some dangerous spot (wherein the main conflict will not be solved with guns at all).
