A tiger calendar, never opened from 2001. Why did I buy a tiger calendar years ago when I wasn't planning on doing tigers? No idea. But I've learned over the years that if I have a real desire to buy something research like that makes no sense to me, to just buy it. Because, one; it won't be there later when you need it.

Packrat much?
Her house must be full of clutter....

Two, because I usually need that book, or picture at the oddest times, but when the need hits it's the difference between looking something up and making my page count for the day, or having to run out to the book store, library, etc . . . Running out for a quick research trip is never quick. The page count is usually screwed for the day.

The thing you're writing your blog in is called "the Internet"
And while we know that the internet is good for porn is not always the best place to do research, you still can get many many shiny color pictures of tigers there, without having to leave the house - something you don't like doing anyway.

Maybe Jon disabled her internet simply so she'd leave the house once every other week. Or even leave the 'office' and do 'research' with him. *shudders at dirty LKH thoughts*

Remember she is a “technophobe”, so actually doing something on the internet is to hard for her.

...also, who in their RIGHT FUCKING MIND calls a calendar a RESOURCE?! There are BOOKS about tigers, that have more than shiny pictures.

Yeah, I was wondering about that.

And as an aside, the Internet is a far better place than many as a source of research of late. I've found more and better on here than at the local library in much less time on a wide variety of subjects. Goodies get added all the time, too. It's not just wikipedia anymore. Technophobia over a one or two word google is just sad.

If you're an artist and need to DRAW tigers, I can understand a calendar for research. (I know, preaching to the choir.)

WRITING about tigers (were- or otherwise)...yeah, a calendar is kinda...pointless.

LKH's idea of research is pretty bizarre in the first place...for the life of me I'll never understand how The Penguin Companion to Food qualifies as a resource for Seduced By Moonlight. Bzuh?

Soooo, she does her animal research by buying calendars about them?

That would explain so much, wouldn't it? Including her half assed understanding of both wolves and hyenas.

I sincerely hope she's NOT being serious about the calendar (although some do have some info here and there). As long as she doesn't ruin my favorite animal it's ok, the fact that she's finally doing some actual research in reassuring...

Uhh...but Christine is a weretiger - she first turned up in Lunatic Cafe, as a lawyerly type alpha chick and I think she had a footnote in NiC.

So...they're...already in the series. *headdesk*

For the umpteenth time, I banish her from science geekdom. FOR EVAH!

I hope I didn't hurt my head too much with that desking, I need brain cells to make POTC2 icons.

OH! And it's "Tyger Tyger / burning bright" -- considering that's the only William Blake poem I have ever read (excluding excerpts from Red Dragon) I can remember that much.

And Padma's animal to call from his triumvirate was a tiger too... though I can't remember the blokes name... just that it was kinda bad Rudyard Kipling punnage what with Indian Matahari vampire, the British Emperial General human servant... AND the British weretiger lapkitten.

Irksome.

Gideon! And...Thomas. Sir Thomas something something, but from now on I'm going to refer to him as Sergent Pepper. Just on principle.

Carswell! Thomas Carswell.

Sergeant Pepper sounds way better.

Heh heh. He was Sergeant Pepper, I can almost see LKH putting him in the costume.

So can I, but it probably won't happen as Sergeant Pepper was pre-80s iconography.

That, and I pray she doesn't get it into her head to use walruses, or a koo-koo-ka-choo. @.@

Why did I buy a tiger calendar years ago when I wasn't planning on doing tigers?

Oh, I don't know. Maybe for the reasons those of us with sanity buy calendars—to keep track of our schedules, to have something pretty on the wall, because it was 75% off so why not...

Calendars do not equal research. Not even if they're the swank National Geographic desk calendars with mini-essays.

LKH, not everything has to be for "research". You might want to try a hobby. Like macrame or something. You know, expand horizons and such. Fun = good.

and why does her description of "research" scream 1st Grader's Diorama to me?

From: [identity profile] criada.livejournal.com
Actually, I can sympathize with her on this one. As far as pictures go, calendars are a great place to find big, shiny ones. And Lord knows that me+free book box+ bizarre interest in writing about fantasy politics=shelves full of books on French bureaucracy I'll never get around to reading.
