May. 10th, 2006 12:18 pmTime for a two-part Blog Flog.
From this entry:
Is the novellite a novel?
No, because the word "novellite" does NOT TECHNICALLY EXIST.
The Edward novellite is falling apart. Either it's a bigger book and not a novellite at all, or something that happens in the next Anita novel will effect events in this book.
Okay...one, if you need to shorten a book, EDIT IT. Cut out the useless crap, the repetitive and unneccesary dialogue, the unneeded sex scenes, stuff like that.
Two...if it isn't working as the book after the next, try making it THE next. e.e
I'd planned on it coming out before the next novel, sort of like MICAH came out before DANSE MACABRE. But unless something changes that ain't going to be happening.
I fail to see why it matters. I also fail to care.
Or maybe the section I just started on weretigers is meant for a different book altogether.
See, I now have the fear that Anita will end up leader of the tigers or whatever. I really hope that doesn't happen.
I'm going to bed. Be well, everyone.
Why does that "be well everyone" seem to be her new catchphrase???
And from this entry:
I've never had a book get to ninety pages then just stop, and tell me this isn't working.
This...this could be why her writing just keeps...getting...worse.
I've learned not to argue with my subconscious, I usually regret it later.
I think I speak for us all when I say FIGHT IT, LKH! ARGUE!!!
Decide what clothes we're taking, that kind of thing.
Because by now we all are PAINFULLY aware of what a clotheshorse she is.
I hate to go shopping, especially for shoes, because comfortable dress shoes for a woman is almost an oxymoron.
Oh come on now. That just proves she isn't looking hard enough. I prefer steel-toeds to heels...but even I managed to find a nice comfortable dress shoe back when I got married almost two years ago. If they had the technology to do it then, they sure do now. e.e
And lastly, on an almost totally unrelated note, I will admit to feeling kindof bummed that she announces she's prettymuch halting work on the Edward "novellite" in a blog entry on my birthday. Because Edward is just awesome and I was almost looking foreward to a book featuring him where Anita'smanwhores fuck buddies castrated yes men lovers were spending multiple chapters alone in a hotel room, "off stage."
This is my frowny face.

Date: 2006-05-10 05:18 pm (UTC)But yes, comfy shoes - they do exist. It also helps if you wear shoes that are more suitable for your shape of foot rather than what's in fashion. Which is why none of my shoes have pointy elf toes, because I don't have pointy little elf feet. Or stiletto heels, because I can't walk in them and they're bad for your back. My shoes, however, are quite comfortable, and if I can wear them while I'm on my feet in a lab for hours on end, then they're good enough for going out.
And this is where I point to my Doc Martens. COMFIEST SHOES EVAH! And Docs go with everything.

I have sadly never owned a pair. So I must take your word for it.

Date: 2006-05-10 05:25 pm (UTC)Either it's a bigger book and not a novellite at all, or something that happens in the next Anita novel will effect events in this book. I'm confused by this. I can't tell if she means Danse Macabre or the one after that, which going by her current position would be written after the next Merry novel. So her timeline was going to be: Micah, Mistral's Kiss, Danse Macabre, Edward, Next Merry, Next Anita. I'm not sure why this would be causing her problems. Why is it that I can never really understand what she is trying to say?
Some small point will be raised, or character will be changed in the next novel that will effect this story. Well consistency has always been a big factor in these books.

I vote it's because she's almost consistently incoherent. >.<

Factor...problem...po-TAY-to, po-TAH-to... ;)

Date: 2006-05-10 05:31 pm (UTC)As for LKH, I'm resigned to the fact that she's gotten too big for her britches and totally lost the plot. I just take perverse pleasure in reading what she has to say and how you wonderful people rip it apart. :) That to me is enjoyment of the fullest.
Plus, since I plan on being a writer, I look to LKH as my role model of what NOT to do. :)

Yah. Sadly enough I was looking foreward to this Edward "novellite" (GOD I HATE THAT "WORD") because of her complaints about the ammount of plot and lack of sex.

OH HELL YEAH. :D

Date: 2006-05-10 07:01 pm (UTC)And, yeah, the more she uses "novellite" the more just seeing that word makes me want to go insane.

Maybe there's a reason that the last semi-decent book had him in it >.

Date: 2006-05-10 08:52 pm (UTC)Beyond that, LKH yet again proves a complete break with reality here. Come ON. Even I can find comfortable shoes, including dress shoes, and I have ALL sorts of prohibitions on what I can wear, both due to serious knee injury, which restricts the height of heels, and huge feet (11W+), which restricts the availablity of styles, and due to odd toe cleavage, as well, which restricts where sandal straps can and cannot go, and therefore pretty much has me at single wide strap. Oh yes, and due to ankle swelling since the injury, and high rising area right before the ankle even when I don't have that, I can't do anything with a normal sized ankle strap, either (or really any ankle strap at all).
I can pretty much GUARANTEE she's not harder to shop for for shoes than I am, being five four, and petite, in fact, I'd pretty much bloody guarantee it, unless her toes are more multi-positional than the sex in her last few books, in fact, I don't really see where she'd get off even beginning that rant...

Date: 2006-05-10 09:41 pm (UTC)And yeah, I'm fairly certain her lack of ability to find comfortable women's dress shoes is that she desperately wants to prove how biased the whole freaking world is against women, which...in some ways, it is, but NOT CLOTHING. She keeps trying so hard to find ways to show how much she/Anita OMG SUFFER FOR HAVING A UTERUS. It's sad.

Is the novellite a novel?
Well, finally back for another try at the blog. The day has been a hard one, so much so that Jon surprised me with roses when he came back from an errand. The flowers sit on my desk as I write this. Why has the day been hard? A variety of reasons, but the one pertinent for the blog is this one. The Edward novellite is falling apart. Either it's a bigger book and not a novellite at all, or something that happens in the next Anita novel will effect events in this book. I should know better than to write a book out of timeline with Anita. Some small point will be raised, or character will be changed in the next novel that will effect this story. I'd planned on it coming out before the next novel, sort of like MICAH came out before DANSE MACABRE. But unless something changes that ain't going to be happening. Or maybe the section I just started on weretigers is meant for a different book altogether. Or maybe it's a rabbit hole, which means it leads nowhere. I can't see the forest for the trees on this one, so I'm stepping back, catching my breath, and in a few days we'll see. If the Anita novel takes off, and flows like crazy, well then the novellite was just not ready. But if the novel slows than maybe it's just my head gone ugly. It happens sometimes, even to me. I'm going to bed. Be well, everyone.

Better today
Feeling some better today. I've never had a book get to ninety pages then just stop, and tell me this isn't working. I think the plot will get used down the road, but there's something about the weretiger stuff that needs to be touched upon in the next as yet unnamed Anita novel. I've learned not to argue with my subconscious, I usually regret it later. But it still feels like wasted effort. I now have an almost equal page count for both books, how weird is that? Very weird for me, in fact, a first. I'm usually pretty goal oriented and driven, so once I'm this far in, well, it just keeps going. It's an uncomfortable feeling. But my original plan was for Jon and I to finish up the script for GUILTY PLEASURES when I finished MISTRAL'S KISS. Maybe this is the universe's way of telling me to get back to it. I'm also going back to the longer book. But today while I decide which way I'm shifting gears, novel or script or divide the day between, we'll finish getting ready for the Romantic Times conference. Decide what clothes we're taking, that kind of thing. All my comfortable dress shoes are wearing out, I have to go shoe shopping. I hate to go shopping, especially for shoes, because comfortable dress shoes for a woman is almost an oxymoron.
