I've been pondering why I stick with Anita Blake. I loathe Anita Blake as a character, and find myself wanting seriously nasty things to happen to her. The men in her life aren't much better; they're either whipped or made to look insane. As for the women... woo, bitch much? So, why? I thought about it, and then realised what it was.

Zerbrowski. Not just him, but the whole of RPIT. Including Dolph, even though LKH seems set on making him into a psycho. I like RPIT, they interest me, and we just don't see enough of them. I like the fact that they're mostly normal people with no hugely special powers, who just muddle through as best they can. I feel sorry for them, having to put up with Anita. She probably really mucks up their investigations these days, what with screwing up crime scenes before even Forensics get a look at them.

Anyone else like to see stories focussing on RPIT? Investigating preternatural crime as best they can, no voodoo tricks being pulled out of their ass, no big bad after them. Just honest-to-god police investigation with a supernatural flavour, with characters that have personality instead of powers.

Of course, this means LKH probably shouldn't write it, because she'll just make Tammy and Larry have sex on Dolph's desk with the whole of the squadroom staring in through the window, while Dolph attempts to write a report around them.
