Darla & LKH?

Please keep in mind that I know nothing about LKHs private life except that she has a daughter, has been divorced and is now married to Jon.

What is the deal with Darla? Is she living with LKH? [The reason I ask is because she seems to be pretty involved with LKHs private life.]
If anyone could point me towards articles or posts regarding this - or just tell me in the comments - I would be very thankful.
And: Why does LKH need a bodyguard? I know she write bad fiction, but I seriously doubt anyone would order a hit on her for that.

Darla was apparently a fan that LKH met at some convention and then was hired to be a personal assistant. At least part of her job duties include posting rants on Amazon.com and apparently throwing tantrums on other message boards.

A bestselling author needs somebody to handle mail (yes, Laurell will attend MWA; no she cannot come speak at your kid's school; thank you for loving Laurell's books; hey, Laurell, you should read this lette,r it's really cool...) in short, manage the fact that everybody wants a piece of the author and there are only so many pieces to go around.

Personal assistants manage schedules, review mail, answer phone calls, and that sort of thing. I think Darla also handles a lot of the internet things, but I'm not sure.

I don't think poorly of LKH for needing help, though much of Darla's role seems to be a part of her entourage of ego-stroking sycophants.

I think that's where I was confused. I know that authors need help with those sort of things but their relationship seems a bit heavy on the personal part.

It does.... See, I read Sherrilyn Kenyon's blog and man, her assistant Brynna doesn't live with her. Brynna has a full life of her own and from what I understand, lives in a totally different state.

Of course, Darla's probably the best friend that Anita keeps arguing w/ & is now hooked up w/ one of the were-rats... :p

After all, Micah is Jon - quite literally!

And yes, she has a daughter and man, I've said it in the past and will say it again - LKH is a raving lunatic for naming her after the "perfect love" between Anita, Richard & Jean Claude. Poor daughter will never hear the end of it once her peer group gets old enough to read and realize what a lunatic her mother is. :p

Ugh! I always thought that LKH named her daughter after that character in the Matrix. I thought that was bad enough, but to name your daughter after a love-triangle in one of your books...Looney!

Actually, it's widely agreed that the character of Claudia is based on Darla. Claudia is a wererat bodyguard who valiantly defends everything that Anita does and first appeared in Narcissus in Chains, along with Micah and the ardon't.

Ronnie, the best friend shacking up with Richard's wererat best friend Louis, has been character assassinated and is now just another one of the jellus h8erz. No, Ronnie is not Darla.

Not to mention personal pit bull. Darla's as nutty as she is, if not moreso. As an earlier poster said, it seems to be one of her "duties" to troll on other messageboards. I've seen her pop up on the Amazon boards from time to time. She's the sort that flames-and-flees. She waits for things to die down, and then comes back to stir things up. She really pisses me off since she also has her minions go on the offensive.

For a personal assitant, much of her behavior is really immature and unprofessional. I would be embarrassed, and fired her LONG ago. But then, this is Laurell's personal assistant we're talking about here, and no sane person would keep a total nutbag zealot like Darla around.

One interesting thing I caught on her myspace page: evidently she knew Jon first. They were college buddies, evidently. I guess he got to know LKH through Darla, which makes their whole "triumvirate" even creepier to me than before.
