Someone asks why Anita ain't jealous of Envy: "Because she's happy that Jean-Claude has someone else in his life, since she has other men. Look up the word, compersion. Is Envy another love of his life? No, but it would be totally unfair if Anita was upset with Jean-Claude for one extra woman when she has so many men. Also, I, my husband, our girlfriend, and her husband, are polyamorous, so personally don't have a problem with sharing"

Compersion is not a word. I looked it up. And I have no idea what word she meant instead . I also love how she brought in her own poly when the question had nothing to do with that lol

" I think my biology degree helps make my vampires and shapeshifters more realistic. " ...no. really no. pretty much everything is handwaved with "magic" what are you even talking about

On if Anita will ever have kids like Merry: "As a writer I'm hoping she doesn't have a baby, because it would complicate my job, but it's not my life and choice really, it's hers"........yeah I don't even need to say anything here, do I?

I found "compersion" on Urban Dictionary and it's also mentioned on Wikipedia under polyamory. But it's not defined on Wikipedia. All the Google search results are for polyamory stuff, but it's not a word I've ever heard before either. Urban Dictionary calls it "A feeling of joy when a loved one invests in and takes pleasure from another romantic or sexual relationship."

Anita's supposed to feel this? ANITA? Yeah, that's bullshit. LKH obviously has read some stuff on polyamory and knows how Anita is supposed to feel if she's happy being polyamorous, but she has never written Anita actually feeling this way, and has instead written Anita as feeling the opposite constantly.

Yup. I'd also like to note of course Anita isn't jealous of Envy because Envy as a character doesn't really exist, nor does her relationship with JC. Yeah, we're shown her as existing, and told that she sleeps with JC and Richard*, but we never actually get anything from her as a person, let alone any actual interactions shown between her and the men (or her and anyone). She's a paper doll that LKH tossed in to create the illusion of Anita sharing and being okay with it; when she's a developed character in her own right, or at least given some fucking SCRAP of personality, and has any relationship with these guys that isn't either offscreen or a fuck-scene that Anita watches to get off on, then I'll buy it. Till then, yeah, totally bullshit. Nice try LKH, except not.

*Which, considering she was given to them as a gift and was raised in an isolated environment where she was brought up to be/do whatever her masters wanted, makes her consent more than questionable

Anita's also a woman who forbid one of her lovers from sleeping with a man who had been his lover for centuries before her. Then when she finally allowed it, LKH couldn't handle it and had to put the man on a bus. LKH is confusing "compersion" with "voyeurism"; Anita gets off on seeing her penii in sexual situations (especially with each other), but she damn well better be involved or there is hell to pay.

I reach my sticking point with the very beginning of the definition. "A feeling of joy."

I am behind on the books (I stopped around Cerulean Sins/Incubus Dreams/The Harlequin, but I can't recall the order), but I honestly can't remember when I last read about Anita feeling joy about anything, let alone something regarding her relationships. At best, she's had moments where we're told she's content (reading in bed with Micah and Nate comes to mind s perhaps the singular example), but no memory of her expressing joy or anything like it.

She claims she's happy a lot, usually defensively, but she doesn't show it at all. In Danse Macabre, she yells at Richard that she's happy sleeping with all these guys, but she has to be talked into/forced into/manipulated into doing it every time, and she's miserable throughout the book. It ends up looking like the John Waite song "Missing You," where he claims in the chorus he's not missing her at all no matter what his friends say, while talking in the verse about how his heart is breaking. Except that song is honest. And not as repetitive, though it's really repetitive.

(I found the lyrics on an oldies lyrics site. WHAT. They're going to be putting Nirvana on there soon, aren't they? Urgh.)

Wait, but... then why does Anita (and LKH) hate on Asher so bad? He's just another romantic relationship that JC has AND COULD BE invested in. All the compersion for that one is gone.

But, no, Envy's cool. She's got titties and doesn't make Anita feel emasculated.
