And the inevitable Blog Flog.

Edward has a perverse streak.

This could be awesome, or terrible, depending on how she handles it.

I for one hope Edward is "perverse" in ways that do NOT lead him to want to screw Anita. Frankly I hope he's only considered pervy for some semi-legit kinks or interests...also, what defines "perverse?" I like both men and women, I like being dragged around on leashes, I wear collars with a lot of glee, and I like milder forms of pain. Am I perverse? Technically, not really.

As an aside, all who hope Edward is secretly gay and lusting after one or more of Anita's yes-men, RAISE YOUR HANDS. *hand UP!!!*

When I was planning OBSIDIAN BUTTERFLY, book nine, I thought it would be set in Arizona or some place close to it. Edward had other ideas. He wanted it to be New Mexico, which I'd never visited. I argued, he won, and the moment I got off the plane and saw the landscape, I knew he was right. He did live here.

And now (getting our excersize today, aren't we?!) everyone who finds that to be seriously fucked up of her to say, RAISE YOUR HANDS. *Hand still UP!*

The last time I tried to set an Edward book in Arizona, and he refused, this time I try for somewhere else, and it looks like he's hinting for Arizona.

...I haven't put my hand down yet.

Need it be said? Everyone who finds her to be totally crazy, RAISE YOUR HANDS.

I know this has been said before, PLENTY of times, but...see...EDWARD IS ONE'A THOSE FICTIONAL CREATURES WHO DOES NOT EXIST. She is his author and creator, SHE CONTROLS HIM, not the other way around.

I know this because if Edward could control her, most of Anita's men would be dead and her books would not suck. I have the faith, you see, that if Edward was somehow real in ANY WAY, and could control her, most of her recent books would just NOT EXIST.

At least I've driven through Arizona.

I pity anyone who lives in Arizona, the apparent location of perverse!Edward's new (pet peeve here) NOVELLA, not NOVELLITE! *shakes fist*

Well, I can easily conceptualize Edward as real enough that I feel sorry for what she does to him. :(

I admit that sometimes when I'm writing a story what I intended to do originally doesn't work, and it's crazy scary sometimes how well things work out that you never ever planned, BUT I'm smart enough not to treat my characters like they're real people who take control over my writing. I agree, this is just creepy the way she refers to her characters. I especially get the major creeps when she refers to Anita and herself as we.

I do that, too. I mean, to a degree, my characters are 'real' in the sense they have personalities and whatnot that have been built over the years. However, I do not seriously have arguments with my characters. I do occasionally blame them for weird twists that stories take, and I sometimes say "Well. I never saw that coming" when things angle a certain way ... but I don't believe them to be living breathing entities.

At least, not on this plane of existence...

Yeah, it's they way she enmeshes herself in their lives. It's natural to get fond of your characters, for them to be almost real, because you know them so well. But to start refering to you and your characters as 'we' is just deeply creepy. Given she seems to have no social life or much contact with the outside, I start to wonder if she's actually made her literary (cough) world her REAL world. Her outside contact seems to just reinforce what she's created. Her characters are literally her friends, which would go a ways to explaining why the hell she can't kill them off. She hasn't created characters (if she had, she could create some explicitly to kill off - hell, JKR managed it in Harry Potter), she's created friends, and can't bear the thought of losing them.

Excuse me, I'll be hiding over here, feeling severely creeped.

She reminds me of some truly obsessed role-players, who have insanely Mary Sue characters and yet insist the characters are 3-Dimensional people, not just perfected expressions of themselves.

And now, through her cast of characters she can get back at the snotty/slutty head cheerleader, and the footbal, basketball AND track team all adore her. The teachers and other authority figures defer to her and ask her advice.

But if one of them died? It would mean her alter ego isn't even perfect. Horrors. Sigh. It's easy to forget the real world and get caught up in the make-believe, but in the end it doesn't do your make-believe world any justice.

*joins you in the creeped out section*

Personally, I'm surprised she actually bothered to go to New Mexico.

Don't all super 8 motels look the same no matter what state. Lets face it if she has to solve a murder or kill a vampire it better happen between the gangbang in the lobby and before she fights with Her ex..errr Richard and has sex.

"...I haven't put my hand down yet." *giggles* that line made my day.

And i bet she considers herself someone who is expressing their characters as past lives or different sides of her that are trying to escape. So what she considers cool and edgy, to dramatize it as the characters controling her...well, the rest of us in this world might see it bordering on multiple personality disorder or perhaps a plea for negative attention.

she's one of those people who hold onto dreams of being the popular, pretty high school kid...and who never got it. But now that she is getting attention and recognition, and shes married to her top fan...she has everything she wanted and shes running with it.

too bad she keeps hitting brick walls or lamp posts. Go, Laurita, Go!

I for one hope Edward is "perverse" in ways that do NOT lead him to want to screw Anita.

Don't worry; Edward thinks of "them" as a sibling. Or something.

Well, she keeps insisting that Edward will never, ever want to shag "them." I just hope she sticks to that one.

(Seriously, how can she not realize how loony it sounds to refer to herself and Anita as "we"? "Edward will never think of us that way! Micah loves us! We're very tired today." WTF.)

Edward has never seemed very "southwestern" to me. The way she described him in Guilty Pleasures made him appear a very urbane sociopath. I could picture him living in San Francisco, or California wine country, or Connecticut, more easily than than in the desert. My skin literally crawled when LKH paired him with the ditzy new-age clingfilm.

As far as Edward being perverse? I'm assuming she meant contrary, rather than the more amusing definition. Drat.

That's an idea I've been messing with for a ficathon thingamy that I've signed up to do: Edward getting fed up with Ted's life and just putting a bullet in Donna because she's so...so...Donna.

. . . all to the tune of Ordinary World by Duran Duran. OMG, why didn't I think of that sooner?

Seriously, what was WITH that? It just made no sense, characterization-wise.

See, even Anita said she expected him to live in a sleek high rise penthouse or something, not in the middle of the freakin' desert.

And up until the end of the book when he was all, "I think I love her or something," and we were clearly supposed to buy the Softer Side of Edward, I genuinely thought skin-crawling was the whole point of that pairing.

HAHAHA! California wine country...or Connecticut. So random to put those two together. Cracked me up though! I am from CT and I don't think I ever pictured Edward as one of us either.

Definitely San Francisco though. Or maybe even L.A.

My hand is raised, okay both of them.....if by perverse she truly means he doesn't want to shag her...I mean Anita, then by all means, I'll hope for it.

Knowing her, "perverse" means "gay".

She's...nuts. Truly, truly nuts. It pisses me off, too, because I liked those books at one point in time dammit!

If only all her men left her for Edward... Now that'd be amusing. Especially if her ardeur/arduer went nuts and she was locked in a closet or something, and... Hey, I might take on this Kill Her Darlings challenge after all!

*takes one step toward the crazy section*

I...uh...like talking about my characters like they're real and the frustrations they give me. I like having arguments with them. It can be horribly, horribly funny or it can lead to the outlines of a short story, or something to do with their development. [livejournal.com profile] saadiira can attest that I have to be in a "mood" for certain characters, and what default positions my brain hits.

But I know I'm not crazy enough to go as far as LKH. I won't buy them presents. I won't let them dictate the terms by which they get out of bed. I know that they're not real. But it's fun to play with them.

*edges slowly back toward the sane*

*nods*
I talk about my characters as if they're real, and sometimes, when my stories aren't flowing the way they should, I take the character to one side and we sit and chat about what they and I want out of the story and we work out a compromise.
But they still aren't real, and I am very much aware that when I put the book down, my characters go away and stop bugging me.

When I first read that post in her blog, I really thought she had gone over the deep end. Not that I hadn't thought that before from all the other things she's said and written...

Perhaps Edward just told her it was New Mexico to keep her away from where he really lives? *evil grin*
