Amazon has a cover for Hit List posted now.

Hit List

It seems that the experiment in "scary sharp implements on a grainy colored background" covers is over. We've moved back into softcore porn imagery, but the oh-so-grungy splotchy-colors motif remains. As someone in the Amazon discussion thread said, this actually looks kind of generic...or like a Dan Brown or Stephen King novel. Lashers, what do you think?

Tangentially, I wonder what year that quote from Charlaine Harris was made in, or if she were being sarcastic at the time.

Charlaine Harris, at least on her personal message board, has always maintained the persona of being supportive of all other writers and genuine about her comments. And humble. So, I'll go with the idea that she meant what she said.

But I think your question about when or which book she said it about is valid.

From a quick google, looks like she said it about Flirt (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000360643)

Covers like this support the fact that more people will read romance novels on Kindles, Nooks, etc, because the actual covers of the physical books are far too embarrassing to be seen with in public.

Seriously, NOTHING about this cover says "supernatural" or "paranormal" or anything even remotely close to "Vampire Hunter".

Date: 2011-02-16 06:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shadwing.livejournal.com
Pretty much my POV, it's an okay cover for a trashy smut novel...but not a paranormal series about a vamp hunter.

I also this this cover is far more accurate than the past covers have been

I've seen worse covers, but.... awkward pose for that model. NOt particularly alluring.

On a side note, my mother was on a romantic weekend with my dad for Valentine's Day, and she went to an outlet mall (her idea of romantic, I suppose), and texted me from the bookstore, asking if I wanted her to buy me Swallowing Darkness, because I liked LKH, right? After I laughed for about five minutes straight I told her that the series was essentially about sex and she probably recognized the name from me complaining about LKH.

Aww

Date: 2011-03-07 01:36 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mariadeangeles.livejournal.com
Did you ever used to like LKH? Because my mom always remembers things that I liked from five years ago and assumes I still like them or would like them as gifts. LOL Its gotten to the point that I'm afraid to express interest in anything around her because then I might outgrow it and have to deal with her giving it to me as a gift when I've decided I hate it.

Stephen King has way better covers than this. :/

I just don't even know what to say about this cover. It's... interesting. I guess. lol

This is pretty much the only reasonable explanation I can get for this cover. It is just a trainwreck of too many elements smooshed together.

This cover's a total trainwreck. On the other hand, it's probably an accurate representation of the contents of the book.

My guess on the typefacing is that whomever did that knew that LKH's name is a bigger draw than the book hence why its so big and prominent compared to everything else.

This reminds me of neither Stephen King nor James Patterson, or rather it's such of an awful composition that I'm sure it renders a perfect picture of the inner content of the book.

Hmmmm, I'm confused about the lady on the cover. She just looks like a a partly covered blog of pale skin. I like the gold and the guy.

Charlene Harris isn't that great of a writer either, but she is a competent one to her credit.

i gotta say... that actually frightens me.

and is that supposed to be Anita, or Belle, or someone else entirely? cause if it's Anita, the proportions are ALL WRONG for how she's described - not that cover artists usually pay any damned attention. i once saw a romance novel about a woman who was described as 5'5" and 230 pounds drawn as a skinny, slinky model. so i guess it could be Anita?

seriously - that is a frightening cover

I am really confused about that gold stuff.
Is it gold leaf deteriorating away?
Is it leaves on the ground blown away?
or is it just a gold piece of paper torn away?

To me it looks like someone was ashamed of their erotic novel and covered it up with a James Patterson cover and then accidentally let their 3 year old tear off the cover. The two themes DO NOT go together.

Wait a minute...

*squints suspiciously* I don't know if anyone else sees this but that naked woman on the cover? Is it just me or does she resemble LKH in an extremely photoshopped way? Something about her face shape... Am I the only one who thinks this?

Re: Wait a minute...

From: [identity profile] mystoflare.livejournal.com
I thought that, too. Oh, man, LKH's narcissism has hit a new low. I bet if there's another Anita book after this, it'll have either Anita or Belle Morte with LKH's weirdly photoshopped face slapped across the cover in some sexually suggestive pose. Though I wonder if LKH or Jonboi thought that was a good idea...

And that could inspire horrible mental images none of us need! Do Not Want!

Ugh It is gross, but what I really hate about it is how it is completely blotting out the models hair. The way it is cropped around her head makes it look like the ugliest hat in the history of forever :0(

My first impression of the cover (besides the blugh!) was that it was lkh's face, hell I didn't even notice the guy till someone pointed it out on Amazon.
